A Warm Invitation to the Holidays in America’s Coolest Small Town

The Christmas tree has been lit, its lights twinkling outside the Atlantic Hotel, creating a traditional Christmas scene, if ever there was one.  And what is so wonderful is you can be part of this scene, while still getting your shopping done, meeting up with friends for a Christmas gathering, and just spending time with your family.

December 4th is the date for Berlin’s 44th Annual Christmas Parade.  Starting at 7pm, local businesses and

schools contribute to this festive parade with its procession of decorated floats, dancers, and bands, marching down Main Street. Make sure you bring your blankets and chairs to enjoy the Parade in comfort.

December 12th is Friday Art Stroll, so between 5pm and 8pm, take the opportunity to wander downtown and discover the unique and diverse small businesses which line the streets, many of which will have featured artists on display.  This is also a great time to try one of the many restaurants in Berlin, all walking distance from downtown, so no car necessary.  If it’s just a refreshing drink you’re looking for, try Burley Oak Brewery just a couple of streets away on Old Ocean City Blvd, for one of its home brewed craft beers, and also take a free tour of their brew house every Saturday at 3pm.

Each Friday night in December, the Taylor House Museum will open from 5-8pm for special candlelight tours of the carefully restored and decorated 19 century house.

Every weekend in Berlin this holiday season, enjoy an old fashioned Horse and Carriage ride, and slowly amble your way through the storybook setting which is downtown Berlin.  Santa will also be available to hear Children’s hopes and dreams for Christmas morning, and to check that they have been good all year.

The celebrations peak on December 31st with the welcoming of 2015.  The intersection of Berlin’s Main Street and Broad Street becomes their very own Time Square as the countdown to the New Year begins, culminating with the ball drop at midnight.  Music and entertainment will fill the streets from 8pm, with plenty of food and refreshments to keep everyone in a celebratory mood.  The horse and carriage rides will be available during the evening for a reflective tour of the holiday lights.

Take time to enjoy the unique experience of Berlin, Md. and be welcomed into the warmth of America’s Coolest Small Town this Holiday Season.
