18th Annual Winefest at the Beach Celebrates Local Libations

Are you a wine lover? Do you consider yourself a connoisseur who likes to try as many types of wine as possible? Do you believe the best kinds of wine are made locally using the freshest ingredients possible?  If any of these describe you, you’re in luck.  Just when you thought summer was over, Ocean City, Maryland offers up yet another end of season festival to help delay the inevitable onslaught of the off season: Winefest at the Beach.  The 18th annual Winefest takes place September 27-28 from 11am-7pm at the Ocean City Inlet and will bring the best local and regional winemakers together for a celebration dedicated to all things fermented grapes, wooden casks, and corked bottles.

Winefest is like any other wine tasting event you’ve been to, except better because it’s at the beach!  Your $30 tickets gets you entry to either day of the event, a commemorative wine glass, and samples of the finest wines the East Coast has to offer.  Wineries at the 2013 edition of Winefest include: Boordy Vineyards, Dove Valley Winery, Far Eastern Shore Winery, Frederick Cellars, Knob Hall Winery, Layton’s Last Chance vineyard and Winery, Legends Vineyard, Linganore Winecellars, Solomons Island Winery, and St. Michael’s Winery from Maryland; Fenwick Cellars from Delaware; Brotherhood and Hazlitt Vineyards from New York; Chaddsford Winery from Pennsylvania; Horton Vineyards from Virginia; and Folks of Cheat Winery and West Whitehill from West Virginia.  With so many unique flavors and styles to choose from, your decision about which ones to try will be go beyond that of picking red or white.  If you ask us, this is a good problem to have.

Winefest may be a celebration of oenology, but great wines are far from the only thing you’ll be able to sample at this year’s event.  Be on the lookout for vendors selling all your favorite Eastern Shore fair food favorites, as well as local craft beer, handmade arts and crafts, clothing, and other specialty items.

The organizers of Winefest know nothing pairs better with a good glass of wine, local food, and beach backdrop than live music, so they are bringing local recording acts to the inlet stage for your listening pleasure.  Performances by Blues Deville, 3 Penny Opera, and Bird Dog and the Road Kings will serenade your ears while you sip wines and mingle with old friends, and make new ones.

Winefest at the Beach is sure to provide a great time for all who attend, but celebrating responsibly will help make for an even better experience.  Winefest offers a Designated Driver program for anyone responsible for getting their friends and family home safely.  If you’re tasked with being your group’s “DD,” your general admission ticket includes a commemorative wine glass and unlimited refill of Coca Cola products.  Anyone attending Winefest is encouraged to designate a sober driver, or make other arrangements to get home safely.

Winefest is a rain or shine event that you don’t want to miss.  Get your tickets early to avoid the delay in the ticket line the day of the event.  Anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets for underage attendees cost $15 and children under 12 are admitted free.  For more information or to purchase tickets online, please visit www.winefest.com.
