Year-Round Hotels and Dining Specials

It’s that time of year.  The wind is howling, the sun is glistening, and the temperatures are well below what they should be. If you are cooped up in your office or hibernating at home, it’s time to break out and get a change of scenery!  Ocean City is a great place to go in the winter.  I should know. I had most of my family here to celebrate New Year’s and we had a blast!  The Grand Hotel gave us great rates on gorgeous rooms with an ocean view.  The building curves so our view was southeast.  We could see the inlet and ferris wheel way down the beach, the sunrise over the ocean, and the surfers playing in the waves.  The man from Cropper Oil who is an avid fisherman and with whom I was chatting this morning said that you can see Humpback whales migrate down the coast at this time of year.  He assured me that he would never go to the inlet without binoculars.  Now I think you should never go to an oceanfront hotel at this time of year without binoculars.  The view from the rooms wasn’t the only great view in the hotel.  Each hallway had enormous windows allowing for a fabulous view of the bay.  You could see the bridges and also get the idea that you really are staying on a barrier island beach.  You probably could catch a glimpse of the wintering loons, but only with binoculars.  The rooms themselves were clean and perfect.  The little refrigerator and microwave came in handy so we could serve hot chocolate to the kids when they came back from running on the deserted boardwalk or playing in the sand.  I never really thought about having a family reunion at the beach in January, but now I will do it every year.  We had kids ranging in age from 8 through 19 and all were happy and occupied.  There is a pool table, a full size chess board, a fitness center, an indoor pool, a coffee shop, and a bar.  Playtime for all ages!

The Grand is not the only hotel with great rates and packages this time of year.  The Clarion is a luxury hotel in North Ocean City that has a winter special this month.  Check out the Clarion‘s listing in our reservations system. The Comfort Suites in West Ocean City is conveniently located just down from the only full-service, self-standing Starbucks.  (There is also a Starbuck’s located inside the Hilton Hotel.)  The Comfort Suites is a new hotel with a great breakfast spread and high-speed internet.  They also have a special in our system.  The Princess Royale, home to the annual Penguin Swim,  is also open year-round and has great rates, a wonderful oceanfront restaurant and an indoor pool for the kids.

And if you haven’t noticed, OceanCity.com just launched our new site.  We’re still working on some of the pages, but think it is a vast improvement over the old design.  We have new features and links so please click through to the site and explore.  Our online reservations system has many different hotels and motels located throughout Ocean City with lots of different features and amenities that you can explore.  Click here to book your room and get away.

If you are looking for great places to eat, winter is the best time to find great restaurants with unbelievable specials.
