Description
Local country school built near Whiton from 1836-1839 and in use until 1931. In 1964 the Superintendent of Schools had the building moved to Snow Hill. With the help of donated texts and artifacts, the school was re-opened for tourists as the Mt. Zion One-Room Schoolhouse Museum, and furnished as a working school with desks, recitation bench, lunch pails, pencil cases, assorted texts and school memorabilia. From mid-June through the first week of September, families and school groups can visit the school to get a glimpse of what childhood might have been like more than 100 years ago.
