Description
This museum is known as "the attic of Worcester County". Originally founded in order to house a large collection of the folk art of Julia Purnell, whose needlework portrayed local landmarks including houses and churches, the Purnell Museum displays over 10,000 artifacts and dozens of exhibits. The focus of the Purnell Museum is on Eastern Shore culture and history. Some of its most popular exhibits are a collection of dressed fleas, which were a popular collector's item in the 1920s, and the "Old Time Religion" exhibit, which showcases religious art in order to document the history of Christianity on the Eastern shore through the ages.
The museum also hosts special annual events including Children's Discovery Day, the Snow Hill Historic Church Tour, and the Delmarva Needle Art Festival.
