Sunfest 2013: Ocean City’s Most Popular Festival Returns for 39th Year
Labor Day may mark the end of summer in some places, but Ocean City, Maryland is not one of them. In Ocean City, we believe summer is a state of mind that can’t be marked on a calendar or constrained to certain months. In fact, the pursuit of endless summer is a major reason why Ocean City waits until September to hold it’s biggest, most popular festival of the year: Sunfest.
Sunfest 2013 (Septmber 19-22) marks the 39th year of this annual late summer tradition in Ocean City, and this year’s event promises to be one of the best ever. This free, four day, family-friendly festival will feature numerous exhibits, events, and vendors to stimulate all of your senses. Over 30 food vendors will line the inlet parking lot, offering your favorite local and regional delicacies to help you refuel after an afternoon of browsing arts and crafts and participating in activities. Each day will also feature numerous free performances by local artists that will help set the stage for each night’s headlining concert.
As always, national recording acts are a major part of the Sunfest experience and this year’s headlining acts will showcase the full spectrum of American music. The legendary Beach Boys return to Ocean City to headline the event with their timeless classics of sand and surf. In addition to “America’s greatest rock band”, Sunfest 2013 will also feature one of the brightest young stars in country music. Kip Moore is best known for his hit singles “Somethin’ Bout a Truck” and “Beer Money” and is well on his way to becoming a household name in the country music world. Join him and fellow country star Kacey Musgraves Friday September 20 as they transform the inlet into a beach-side honky-tonk. Click here for a detailed look at Sunfest live music, including a full entertainment schedule.
If you’ve been to Sunfest before, you know the immense popularity of the event can make parking a challenge. This year, Ocean City is offering options to reduce the burden of parking, so you can spend more time enjoying the sights and sounds of Sunfest. Patrons are invited to park for free at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center and ride the Sunfest Express to the inlet for only $3 all day. The Boardwalk tram will also run for extended hours (10am-midnight) and will drop you directly off at the action for only $1 per boarding. Finally, you can also opt to leave your vehicle at the West OC park and ride, and be shuttled non-stop to Sunfest for $3 a day or $1 each way.
Don’t cut your summer short, make plans to attend Ocean City Sunfest 2013 now and help make your dreams of endless summer a reality.
