Labor Day Weekend in Ocean City
It’s Labor Day Weekend in Ocean City. This 4-day weekend is known as the final hoorah for the Summer season. The kids are back to school, the weather is getting cooler, and the days are getting shorter, but this doesn’t mean everything in Ocean City has ended for the season. Use Labor Day weekend as a last-chance to enjoy everything OC has to offer before Autumn quickly rolls into this beach community.
Be sure to enjoy the Maryland sunshine, play on our white-sand beaches, relax on your vacation, and to have a great time this weekend! Labor Day is one of the best times to celebrate summer’s end. The Ocean City Beach Patrol will be guarding the beaches throughout Labor Day Weekend. The lifeguards are on duty and in-stand from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Be sure to follow all precautions the lifeguards recommend while on the beach this weekend. With hurricanes Earl and Danielle predicted to approach the shores of Ocean City this week the ocean may be unpredictable. The temperatures are expected to be moderate, not too cold, not too hot, so enjoy a few days laying on the beach and enjoying the sunshine.
Stop by the Ocean City Convention Center on 40th Street for the Labor Day Weekend Art & Craft Festival. The festival runs from September 3rd to September 5th and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You’ll find stained glass, candles, pottery, hand-made home goods, oil and watercolor paintings, woodworked items, furniture, and gifts at the Art & Craft Festival. Ocean City’s art and craft shows always offer a plethora of unique individual items.
If you’re interested in doing something exciting and fun this weekend head 7 miles west of Ocean City to Berlin, MD and check out Ayers Creek Adventures. Ayers Creek Adventures was created to give people an opportunity to experience the ecology, wildlife, and waterways of the Berlin area first-hand. Kayak and canoe rentals are available. Guided eco-tours are offered for those who would like a tour guide. Detailed water maps and wildlife guides given to those exploring Ayers Creek are helpful when exploring the area. All tours are led by an experienced instructor who can explain the history of the area, navigate through the waterways, and provide information about wildlife while paddling.
If you haven’t played mini-golf this season, now is your chance! Go to any of the 6 Old Pro Miniature Golf course located throughout Ocean City. The Temple of the Dragon course is on 23rd Street. The Renaissance Castle course is on 28th Street. Check out the Prehistoric Dinosaur course on 68th Street or the Pirate Ship course on 136th Street. There are 2 indoor courses, the Undersea Adventure and the new Safari Village, located on 68th Street and 136th Street. Old Pro Golf has been Ocean City’s premier miniature golf courses for over 40 years and guarantee fun for the whole family during Labor Day in OC.
Looking for a place to eat outside on the patio before the restaurants in Ocean City begin putting their outdoor furniture in storage for the off-season? Try these two recommendations that will be offering specials during Labor Day weekend:
Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill
Beach service at it’s best! Head to Coconut’s to enjoy their newly renovated patio while having lunch, dinner, or just relaxing. Specialty items include seafood, crab cakes, grilled hamburgers, and many more. The kid’s menu is fantastic and there is usually some form of children’s entertainment during the day to keep the little ones busy. Live entertainment plays on the stage built into the sand. Happy hour is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Food an beverage service is offered on the beach and at the pool. Coconut’s is located inside the Castle in the Sand Hotel on 37th Street and the Ocean.
Conner’s Beach Cafe & Sail Loft Deck Bar
This casual downtown eatery affords postcard-perfect views of the beach and Boardwalk from the ground-floor dining room and second-level deck. The menu features seashore favorites such as crab cakes, fish and chips and soft-shell crabs. Conner’s is located on North Atlantic Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets.
Hang out in Ocean City during Labor Day for this final weekend of Summer fun! We all are sad to see Summer end but excited for the Fall season to hit the beach. See you in Ocean City!
