(July 19, 2013) Every Saturday night though Labor Day a large inflatable screen will be set up on the beach near North Division Street where surf and skate movies will be shown. Local photographers will also be featured during the new event, sponsored by Quiet Storm Surf Shop.
“We’re really excited to do something fun for visitors and local families,” said Meredith Moore, general manager of Quiet Storm, located on the Boardwalk at North Division Street. “We wanted to do something free and different and give prizes away for coming out to watch a movie.”
Brad Hoffman will host and emcee the movie nights, which begin at 9 p.m. Guests should bring beach chairs and blankets. The festivities usually last about and hour and a half.
“It’s almost a throwback to the drive-in, but without the car,” Hoffman said.
Prizes will be given away throughout the evening. At the end of the movie, a grand prize will be presented. All participants have to do is submit their names to be eligible to win prizes, which include T-shirts, stickers, backpacks, hats, Electric sunglasses and Sanuk and Vans shoes.
The first movie night took place June 29. Movies were also shown July 6 and 13.
“It’s been really fun,” Moore said. “People have been coming in (to the store) and saying ‘thanks for a great night.’”
Added Hoffman, ‘We’ve put together some really cool entertainment on the beach for families and the surf and skate community. Every week it just keeps getting better.”
Photographers who specialize in surfing and skating, should contact Hoffman at firstname.lastname@example.org. Each Saturday, a photographer’s work will be showcased in a slideshow on the screen.
