Pedestrian Safety –
Please cross only at marked crosswalks preferably those with pedestrian signal lights.
Grilling in Public Parking Lots –
No fires of any kind which include barbeque grills, hibachis, gas fired grills, liquid propane, gas stoves or any similar apparatus, or bonfires shall be permitted on the beach or other public property without a permit from the Fire Marshal, except those public properties which provide grilling areas which are leased for private usage
Beach and Boardwalk –
The 10-mile stretch of beautiful beach in OC is free and open to the public between 6am-10pm. No private vehicles are permitted on the beach at any time. The ocean surf can be rough and it is best to swim only when lifeguards are on duty. Surf fishing is permitted in OC, however, be sure you are not within 50 yards of swimmers or of anyone on the beach between 9am-6pm.
Highway Safety –
There are bus/bike lanes on both sides of the coastal highway. Please do not park or drive in these lanes unless you are making a right turn. Be alert for bicyclists when entering or leaving the highway. Municipal buses always travel in the extreme right-hand lane on Coastal Highway. They stop and pick up or discharge passengers only at the designated bus tops, which are located every other block along the highway. When following a bus, please keep this in mind. Bicyclist must obey the same traffic laws as motorists and may receive citations for failure to obey these rule of the road.
