Saturday Bicycle Ride through Pocomoke Forest Benefits Rotary

Posted on Tuesday, September 11th, 2012 in Ocean City and Area Sports Activities by nicasio

This Saturday morning, September 15th,  the 2nd annual “Iron Furnace Fifty” bicycle ride will start at the historic Furnace Town outdoor heritage museum in rural Worcester County.   Using the open scenic roads of the Pocomoke Forest, riders have the option of a fully-supported 50K, 50M or 100K ride to help raise funds for the Snow Hill Rotary Club and Furnace Town.

Last year’s inaugural event had over 100 riders, and this year, a 100K route was added as an option.   Returning from last year will be the free T-shirts, Fat Tire beer for adults, revised entertainment, picnic lunch, and the availability of a “sag wagon” and EMT support.   Gone from last year will be the morning rain showers and the bumpy rest-area (we listened!)

Admission to Furnace Town is included in the event, so come see the actual buildings from an 1850’s village built around an historic iron forge (www.furnacetown.com).

The event starts at 7am, and walk-up registrations are welcome.    Come explore the open roads of Worcester County where it’s common to see a flock of wild turkeys, deer, or even a Bald Eagle overhead.    For Registration and more information, visit www.ironfurnacefifty.org, or call event chair Doug Glascox at 410-632-2165.
