Get in early and get in free. Ocean City’s Winterfest of Lights kicks off next Thursday and the opening ceremony includes free admission for one and for all on the inaugural night.
How do you get in the Christmas Spirit? When do you start getting the urge to shop, wrap, bake, all while playing holiday music? Ocean City starts early to help you get in the mood of the season with Ocean City’s award winning Winterfest of Lights.
The spectacular display celebrates 20 years of “dazzling lights on winter nights” this year beginning November 15th and running through New Year’s Day. Your “Winterland Express” tram ride through a mile-long pathway of magical light displays that includes Twelve Days of Christmas, Santa’s Workshop, The Wizard of Oz and a dazzling 50-foot Christmas tree. After your musically accompanied ride, you can end your journey at the Winterfest Village where you can visit Yukon Cornelius’ gift shop and warm up with hot chocolate. Families of all ages will enjoy having their picture taken with Santa every night through December 23rd. After that, Santa leaves to prepare for his Christmas Eve adventures!
The admission is free the first night beginning at 5:30 but after that it’s only $5 for everybody over 12 years of age and FREE for children 11 and younger. The Winterfest of Lights will run until January 1, and is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30 until 10:30 p.m. but closes an hour earlier on the other days of the week. Trams are handicap accessible. It’s been reported that over one million lights go into the fantastic displays of Winterfest. There are always new light displays each year and half the fun is finding the news displays within the lighted wonderland. The new displays aren’t the only attraction and hardly add up to one million lights. The old favorites such as the Twelve Days of Christmas and a selection of popular fairy tales round out the usual offerings.
