New Year’s in Ocean City, MD



There is nothing like New Year’s at the beach!  Ocean City, Maryland goes all out to make your celebration of the New Year perfect.  There are many hotels that offer special packages replete with champagne and romantic dinners.  You can dance the night away or walk the famous Ocean City Boardwalk.  There is the Penguin Swim based out of the Princess Royale Hotel and benefiting Atlantic General Hospital if you like to jump into the cold Atlantic ocean to get your blood moving on the first day of the year — all while helping a very worthy cause.  You can also walk Assateague Island’s beach with environmentalists and park personnel for a beautiful and information gathering of like-minded beach lovers.  Dining is fabulous this time of year in more restaurants than you can remember.  If you like to stay in condos or you have your own place in Ocean City, many restaurants will cater your New Year’s Eve extravaganza.    Whatever your pleasure, you can find a wonderful way to celebrate the start of 2013 in style in the Ocean City, Maryland area.

OC Winterfest of Lights illuminates Northside Park

(Nov. 14, 2014) Make memories the children will remember forever and discover some holiday spirit during the 22nd annual Winterfest of Lights, which returns to illuminate Northside Park on Thursday, Nov. 20.

The opening ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. and includes Ocean City Elementary School’s “OC Stars” performing holiday songs and dance, an appearance from Santa and Mrs. Claus. (Jan. 17, 2014) From serious self-improvements to lighthearted goals, resort merrymakers pledged many resolutions while they rang in the new year in Ocean City.

“I really want to try to be more forgiving this coming year,” said Karen Vail, of Bishopville, over an early evening drink with her husband Rick and daughter Samantha at Galaxy 66 Bar & Grill on 66th Street.

‘The March of the Penguins,’ Ocean City style

(Jan. 3, 2014) An estimated 750-plus people sprinted into the cold ocean on New Year’s Day during the 20th annual Penguin Swim, a fundraiser for Atlantic General Hospital.

For 2014, participants and spectators again had the option to gather at the Princess Royale on 91st Street or join friends at Bull on the Beach on 94th Street before the swim. The party kicked off around 10 a.m. at Bull on the Beach and final registration for the Penguin Swim began at 11:30 a.m. at the Princess Royale.

(Dec. 27, 2013) Join the Assateague Coastal Trust for its 34th annual Ilia Fehrer/Judy Johnson New Year’s Day Beach Walk at Assateague National Seashore on Wednesday, Jan. 1.
