Thanks for posting the great reviews. I'm now salivating for a pizza from Pino's and a crab cake from De Lazy Lizard.

NP Bob, I should have mentioned that I spoke with the Justin (owner of De Lazy Lizard), as we were exsiting the resaurant and he informed me that the crab cake is the same recipe that they use at Coins on 28th st. - I've never been there to verify if they are as good as what I had at the Lizard, but something to keep in mind.

    Re: 2010 Dining Report

My family consists of my wife and 2-15 year old boys (my son and his buddy). Also, we basically eat every meal out despite having a full kitchen at the condos we rent. Enjoy

    June 26 (Sat)

Lunch at Smoker’s Pit (RT 611 about a mile from 50): this has become a tradition to stop at The Smoker’s Pit on our way into town. The owner there, years ago, invited me in to show me around since I’m into smoked foods. I left there that day with a recommendation for a smoker and I’ve been smokin’ ever since. The food there is generally good but I’m sorry to say that it has been hit or miss the past two years. Stick with the safe stuff like pulled pork.

Dinner at Tequila Mockingbird (130th & Coastal): this place is by far our favorite restaurant. The salsa is homemade and it’s awesome-same with the guacamole (my wife loves it, I’m no fan of guacamole). My son’s buddy and I had the Atlantis; my wife had the Senor Murph chicken; and my son had the beef tacos. Based on everyone’s feedback, this place sets the bar. Unfortunately, you should try to go later in your vacation so you’re not comparing your subsequent meals to this one. TM did not disappoint once again. We will go again in August when we’re back down. I highly recommend.

    June 27 (Sun)

Breakfast at Laytons (16th and Philadelphia): basic breakfast place. We had the assortment of pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. The service was good as was the food. We got in and out pretty quickly. A big plus to any restaurant that has sugar free syrup.

Lunch at the Wrapper (on the boards at Dorchester Street): My son and his buddy went here. I didn’t go because what I got last year stunk. Well, that trend continued as my son and his buddy gave it 2 thumbs down. I’m not sure what happened. This place was one of our favorites to hit on the boards. I know they each got at least one chicken and something else. We won’t be going back. Sorry if I offend anyone.

Dinner at Pino’s (81st & Coastal): Tracy has put together family packages that cannot be beat. We got tons of food including salads and desserts for like $50 or so. The food was good and the service was excellent. Props to Tracy. We’ll definitely go back. I would be nice, however, if you could eat in.

Drinks at de Lazy Lizard (1st Street on the bay): we heard commotion and wondered what was going on. It was the grand opening of de Lazy Lizard. We strolled over and checked it out. The place is awesome from the ambience perspective. Open bars on the bay; beautiful sunsets-what’s not to love? Our drinks (well, actually my wife’s drinks) were great. I had bottled beer. We did not eat but will go back in August for lunch or dinner. We had a great time. The people there were very friendly and enthusiastic despite wrestling with opening night issues. With the location and setting, I can’t imagine it won’t be a hit for years to come.

    June 28 (Mon)

Breakfast at Little House of Pancakes (73rd and Coastal): We go here every trip. The food is good and the service is great-not a native to be found though but I guess that’s what OC is becoming. We’ll continue to go here.

Lunch at Fat Daddy’s (Corner of Dorchester & Baltimore Ave): We usually hit this place once while we’re down. The food is good, the wait is short, and the prices are right. Nice quick, cheap lunch.

Dinner at Flavors of Italy (46th and Coastal): my son is an Italian food freak and has been bugging me to take me to this place for over a year now. I don’t know, to me it just looked like a “throw-together” place in a strip mall so I never gave in. I lost out this time, however, I was wrong. The food and service was excellent. The only downside was that it was pricey. They have another location on the boardwalk as well.

    June 29 (Tues)

Drinks/appetizers at Harpoon Hanna’s (RT 54 about mile or so west of Coastal Highway in Fenwick): we love this place. Our only disappointment was that we didn’t make it there for a meal-definitely in August. We had cream of crab soup and it was awesome. Did I mention we love this place? I’ll report back after our August trip.

Dinner at Waterman’s Seafood Restaurant (West OC): I got the crab cakes; my wife and son split a dozen large crabs and my son’s buddy got the all you can eat (crabs, shrimp, corn, etc.). All in all, the food was good and the service was good. I vaguely remember some posts about how great this place was but maybe it was the old board. It was good-not great. I doubt we’ll go back.

    June 30 (Wed)

Lunch at Ponzetti’s (143rd and Coastal): Can’t go a week without Ponzetti’s and this visit was no disappointment. Love their pizza. Grabbed lunch and then ran across the street and caught Toy Story 3D. It rained that day for a bit.

Dinner at Fish Tales (22nd Street on the bay): My wife and I walked there for dinner. This is also a favorite of ours. We usually go for lunch one day and dinner another. We only went for drinks and dinner this trip. We had some appetizers (quesadillas) and we split a burger. I was busy being made fun of by the burly bartender for drinking a dirty banana (hey if you don’t care what people think of you because of what you drink, these things are awesome). In all honesty, the people, food, drinks, and service there is top notch. I/we go there at least once each time we’re in OC. We’ll go back in August and I’m sure I’ll go there during bike week. Put this place at the top of your list.

    July 1 (Thu)

Lunch at Mitchell’s Market (4th and St. Louis): don’t underestimate this little place. They have great food. My son and his buddy frequent this place regularly (my son’s name is Mitchell). If you want something quick, cheap, and good, hit this place up.

Dinner at Dead Freddies (64th Street and Coastal): after all the hoopla on this forum, we were determined to give it a shot. We had a short wait and then were seated outside. We had great food and great service. The only downside is that the outside deck is beside a swamp which tends to stink. They’ll need to do something about that. However, at night you’d think you were on the bay instead of on the highway. We’ll go back.

    July 2 (Fri)

strong> Breakfast at Happy Jacks (25th and Coastal): Definitely a regular stop for us each time we’re down. You get great food, great service, and great
prices. Another thumbs up to sugar free syrup. We left HAPPY.

Lunch at Piezano’s Pizza (on the boards at 3rd Street): we got a large and ate it on a bench on the boards. Good pie-cool guy that owns or manages the place. Always get the “enjoy my friend” which is a nice touch. I guess by now, you can see we like pizza.

My wife had a chick gyro from the Golden Plate down the boards at 1st Street. She said it was amazing.

As always, we head home Friday night instead of messing with Saturday traffic. We stopped at the Crab Deck in Grasonville on our way home. If you ever stop there, get the seafood mac and cheese-you won’t regret it. I probably left out some stuff but I’m doing this weeks later. We had a great week and are looking forward to another one in August. Sorry for any misspellings or gramatical errors. Hope you enjoyed this.

Opps... my bad. I for one and a lot of others it seems really look forward to your reports. Sounds like you picked mostly all winners this year.

No prices this year? Thats the second way I see if we try one of your suggestions... price. Your family sounds a lot like mine. My step daughters have picked up my humor, they are fun to be around.

Glad to hear you had a good trip. Three weeks until we go.

Terp84 sounds like you had a good trip also. You guys cover a lot of ground too. All the way up the coast and back. We eat breakfast and lunch in the condo, and dinners out. If you go to breakfast you lose out on beach time. It's too far of a drive for us to do that. I have always wanted to try Smokers, sounds like I have missed my chance. I do a lot of grilling/bbq/smoking myself.

Terp....loved the report especially the pictures. Really got me in the mood for OC...but I have to sweat it out here in Pittsburgh for about 3 more weeks. The pictures of your OC haunts made my day. Good work!
