They have some pretty low rates for end of August through September. Looks pretty nice too. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances may not even make it this year. We'll definitely try though. If anything it will be in the September time frame instead of July or August. Thanks for the link OC Guy.

I would check out the Trip Advisor reviews before staying at the Americana. Someone died of Legionnaire's Disease recently (last year I think) after staying at the Americana, and there have been reports of bed bugs as well.

I think the Legionnaire's Disease was at Plim Plaza last summer. The Americana had the carbon monoxide poisonings in 2009. No one died in that one, but in 2006 two people died of CO poisoning at the Days Inn. Don't know about the bed bugs.

Geez, where is the general information on things like this? You don't see things like that on tripadvisor or any other sites that I've looked at. I guess it would be bad for business for people to post it all over but still, I'd like to know about them.

Here's a link to the Plim Plaza Legionnaire's Disease story:

Here's one to the CO poisoning at the Americana:

    http://www.mdcoastdispatch.com/articles/2009/10/30/Daily-Buzz/Friday-Oct-30-Hotel-Owner-Pleads-Guilty-To-CO-Violations-Avoids-Fine

Although I have no idea how good or bad the Americana is, or the status of bedbug issues, I think that the CO issues are probably a thing of the past after what they went through years ago. If you come to OC regularly, there are 2 local papers that both come out on Friday, the Dispatch (http://www.mdcoastdispatch.com/) and Ocean City Today (http://www.oceancitytoday.net/), and a daily Salisbury newspaper website (www.delmarvanow.com), that are all online and invaluable for keeping up on local news. Whereas there are tourist oriented publications such as the Beachcomber, these sites will keep you up on the hard news stories from the area.

    Re: unknown hotel

Just got done reading all of the reviews of the Americana on tripadvisor. The most recent ones don't sound too awful but the further back you go it sounded like a nightmare. There were a couple posts about the evacuation during the CO problem so I stand corrected about there not being any mention on tripadvisor. No one died during that leak at the Americana but there was a couple deaths mentioned in the story on the link fpk posted above. I wonder which hotel that was? I'll look and see if I can find it. Thanks for the story links fpk.

The deaths were at the Days Inn on the Boardwalk around 23rd street.
