Terp, I agree with you that there should be dedicated bike lanes, but where would you put them? I'm not sure I've ever heard of an issue between the bikes/scooters and buses. I don't think the state would ever ban them for various reasons. I live off the GW Parkway between Old Towne Alexandria and Mt. Vernon. The federal agency that manages the Parkway spent millions of dollars putting in a bike/walking/skating path. However, the Lance Armstrong wannabees decided this wasn't good enough and felt it was their god given right to ride on the Parkway. Well, a few motor vehicle accidents and bicyclists later they banned bikes from the Parkway because they do not travel anywhere near the speed of traffic and impede the flow of traffic. You can also use the argument about motorcycles being allowed to use the HOV lanes. If you ban scooters and scoot coupes you have to ban bicyclists.

Highball, I agree with you 100%. Seems like a political and commercial volleyball to me.

First, the bus lane was NOT built for scooters. It is a bus lane that is clearly marked. Scooters came about years later. Second, the scoot coupes are lower to the ground and clearly are less visible than bikes and scooters. Lastly, how on earth are bicycles harder to see than scooters? I wouldn't worry too much. I have a feeling neither scooters nor scoot coupes will be around next year.

On a side note, my brother got a $50 speeding ticket today courtesy of the OCPD.

Yeah my kids saw those things on Coastal Highway during our vacation. Kept asking if they can ride in one. Said sorry, never gonna happen kids. Just seems a little too dangerous to me. Sure they look cute and probably is fun but not worth an accident. We'll just stick to go carts and bumper cars.

I have to say they do look fun, but they are a lot lower than I thought they were going to be. Can't imagine them on busy roads. Yikes.
