Due to health problems this will be the first time in 7 years we will not make the trip down to see the lights. This is the first year in the last 7 that we haven't been to OC or Assateague as well. Normally we would have went this weekend for the day. We drive 3 hours go see the ponies, eat at Bj's and see the lights. Anyone else have a tradition with visiting Winterfest? Looking forward to being back next Year....

This is my first time answering. We have been going to OC for the lights every year for the last 15 years. Our daughter now has a place at the beach and we go down the day after Thanksgiving and spend the weekend. It's gotten to be a real tradition and now friends of my daughter are joining us. It is really a fun time and even though my grandson and the sons of the friends are now 14 and 16 we still make it an adventure and ride the tram at Northside Park.

We go to the Winterfest of lights every year also. Its a fun family tradition. We are going this weekend. Will get there on Friday afternoon, have lunch at the Bull on the Beach. We are staying at the Carousel so the kids can Ice Skate all afternoon, and head over to the lights Friday evening. Saturday is the parade down Coastal Hwy which we also attend. Go to dinner Saturday night at the Bonfire, then hit the outlets on the way home on Sunday. Nice weekend getaway!!! Everyone should make it a point to see the lights. It is really a great experience!!

We usually stay at Holiday I Express and can see the entrance to the lights from the indoor pool, Have stayed at the Carosuel in the past. Doesn't look like health issues will clear up in time for this year but hoping to stay getting back to OC early next year.

Hello Everyone, just thought I would let everyone know that the lights were beautiful as usual. I went the first weekend of December as we do every year. This year I was smart. We decided to go to the lights on Friday night at 6:00. Let me tell you, we walked right up, got our tickets, and got right on the tram car. There was absolutely no line at all. I will always go now on Friday night early. We went to the Christmas Parade on Saturday. We had a really fun weekend. I have to say though the crowds were down. We stayed at the Carousel and there were a lot of vacant rooms. The ice rink never had a lot of people skating on it all weekend. Far cry from years past when the ice was crowded. You could just tell that the crowds were down significantly this year. I don't think I have ever received so many discounted offers for rooms before. It seems every other day, I receive email notifications about the cheap rooms being offered all over down there. But it was a nice change of scenary. Its good to get away for awhile. On Saturday morning there were some high school kids who did a polar bear plunge in front of the hotel. Crazy kids!!! On Sunday morning as we were leaving, it started snowing!!!

Nice post deedee, and thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'd really like to go down and see the lights one time. I just have a hard time convincing myself it's worth taking the 6hr trip to OC in the winter. I guess I'm afraid that after I seen the lights I just wouldn't know what else there is to do there this time of year.

Dean we always use the lights as an excuse for a weekend getaway and even though we missed this year we will be back next year. It's a nice winter break we stay at a place with an indoor pool, alot of the restuarants are open and we go to Assateague during the day. yes it is a different experience than during the summer but still fun,

Dee Dee we always go as soon as the lights open and never wait in line.

My wife & I finally decided to take the initiative and go to Ocean City this year to see Winterfest.  We are going the first weekend in December (Friday to Sunday).  We booked a nice package at the Dunes Manor Hotel.  My question is all about the timing and when to do what.  We want to go to downtown Berlin, the Inlet Parking lot, and Northside Park.  As an added bonus, on Saturday is the Christmas parade.  I could not find many details about the parade.  Where is it held in OC?  My understanding is that there is no charge to drive through the inlet parking lot.  Since that is the case, is there ever a long wait to go in?  My plan is to one night go to downtown Berlin and on the way back into OC drive through the inlet lot.  The other night will be at Northside Park.  I also don't know if Friday night would typically be the less busy night as compared to Saturday for the Northside Park, which I am sure can result in a wait.  Any other suggestions on things to do in December are much appreciated.

Even though we are islanders we always do Winterfest several times per season - at least once in the beginning and definitely on Christmas Eve - it's one of our traditions.  We also volunteer at the hot cocao stand for the Parrotheads.

I've never seen the inlet lot crowded - it's just a drive through and only takes a few minutes, so there's never a wait.  Northside can get busy but it's usually not bad.  Even if you have to wait a little, the Christmas spirit makes you really not care.
