VACATION ON AN EXTREME BUDGET

Hey all, first time poster but long time OC fan. I've been going to OC for about 10 years now with my family and we always stayed at Hidden Harbour condos up near Northside Park. Now however i am hoping to make a trip to OC this summer with my girlfriend and i wanna make sure we have a good time. We both know that we want to be by the boardwalk because there is obviously much more happening in this area.

Basically what i'm looking for is a hotel that is right along the boardwalk (obviously something decent, nothing gross) that is very cost conscious. We're looking to go in mid to late august. Anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated. also, oceanfront views are preferrable though not neccessary. I'm looking to spend somewhere from 800-1000 for the week....

you MUST check out the shoreham hotel. it's on 4th st, above shenanigan's restaurant. it's in a great location, the rooms are cheap (low 100s) and they're NICE for the price. they dont have a pool but you can use the tideland carribbean's pool (right next door - so i've heard). i've stayed twice (i recommend room 114, ocean front and cheap) and it's a great place. it's in an old building but it has been recently remodeled and is clean. if you stay on the first floor, the noise from shenanigans could bother you, but if you stay out late it doesn't matter. but definitely, the shoreham is the best bargain i've seen out there (and i've been going to oc for almost 20 years).

just a sidenote, since you'll be with your family (don't know how many people you'll be bringing) they DO have adjoining rooms. oh but there also is NOT an elevator, though the building is 3 stories. something to keep in mind...

Might want to try Comfort Inn on 5th street, one of their oceanview rooms or ocean block rooms, might be in your price range and it is a nice hotel. Has indoor and outdoor pool and free breakfast.

thanks to all who responded, judging from what i've been able to look at so far the shoreham looks like a great value! thanks again all but keep the suggestions comin for me just in case! :)
