As my dining thread indicated we just returned from our long awaited summer vacation. We had reservations at the Sandpiper Dunes from 9/9 to 9/16. Due to work scheduling we decided to sneak in one extra day 9/8. We made last minute reservations for the Barefoot Beachcomber around $100 for the night.
The room was fine 75th street not ocean front. Clean two beds, oven stove, refrigerator and microwave. No problems with vehicle loaded with roof rack in parking lot. Good location for hotel I would not hesitate to stay for a night or two again.
Not to be out done my parents got themselves a room at the Barefoot Mailman. Also clean and no problems. They were however within walking distance to Coins. My father has an artificial hip and knee and made it without problem.
Saturday the 8th we snuck in a day at the beach before check in and the Sandpiper Dunes. My wife went to the Coldwell Banker office next door to check in. They informed her they were OUT OF KEYS to the outside shower. The Dunes condo management in their infinite wisdom placed a locking mechanism on the shower people use before entering the building.
After my wife returned to the beach with the news I returned to Coldwell Banker. Once inside I was informed that the lock was placed in the begining of August and that the owners of our unit 909 did not drop off the key. Apparently other owners failed to do so as well. Then they gave me the key to 501.
I asked all this to stop water theives? They told me it was because people fail to turn off the hose. Please, what BS, the hose has a grip nozle that is only activited with a squeeze. Even with the key it is very inconveniant. If my wife takes our youngest to the room everyone else is left with out a key to the shower.
We have been staying at Sandpiper Dunes for the last two years. We had been on a Golden Sands run, but tired of long elevator waits and continued fire alarm evacuations. We met a couple at the Sanpiper Dunes that owns a unit. They informed us that many who own their don't rent their units and don't like us "renters". The couple we met was very nice our children played together all week. They didn't paint a perfect picture for other owners at the Dunes.
Next year we will try the Plaza again after many years away due to not needing that much space. By then we will have had our third child. A two bedroom unit won't cut it if we continue to travel with my family or inlaws.
The couple we met rents their unit w/o an agent. They have a web site seeleysocsandcastle.com. I saw their unit, it is very nice. They provide all linens, towels, beachtoys, hairdryers. They are selective with guests to help keep it that way. Give them a look I think any guest there would be happy.
