I'm not thrilled at all by this, but I'm not going to up and sell my place. There are stipulations regarding the slots. All the places picked for MD are in the immediate area of racetracks. I believe the slots have to be within a 5 mile radias of these place and it would just make sense to have them at the tracks. However, it doesn't mean they won't put up some big fancy hotel (if possible) around the track area and house slots there. Let's see who really benefits from these slots. I think some will be shocked to see most of the money will not go where it was said to go.
There was grumblings before the referendum about widening 589 into a 4 lane road before slots were to be permitted. I don't know if it was the local politico's, community activists, or someone else stating Ocean Downs wouldn't get them if 589 is just 2 lanes in part. The proposal requires for 4 lanes the entire length of 589 (Rt50 to US113) before slots are approved locally at Ocean Downs. The argument is the increased traffic concerns without the infrastructure to support it. The roads are to be 4 lanes all the way. Forgot where I read it and who was making the argument. The more important question is if this is or just could be a real obstacle.
Good luck having MD deliver the promise of better education, highways, more jobs, etc. I live near Charles Town, WV and we have the slots hear, Our schools still stink, no jobs to speak of unless you like working fast food and our roads are pothole laden pits. If you can get your crooked politicians to deliver on their promises, your doing better than us, our crooked politicians are raking in tax money left and right on our slots, not much filtering to the schools. Still getting taxed to death for sub-standard education here in the great inbred state of West Virginia.
Fear not John......I've heard with the economy they're going to close down a large section (if not all)of the slots in Charlestown. The word is out that they're not really on the "up & up" with the payouts and people are staying away in droves. The owners claim it's cheaper to pay the fines instead of the required pay out per-centage.
The thing I worry about here in Ocean City is that they'll run free shuttle buses into OC carrying the "bus people" into town after they lost their money. Then they'll just loiter around the boardwalk until it's time to go back to Baltimore or DC.
Beware of the Carona Cat !!!
There are houses all around it, most are across some body of water north and behind like the Glen Riddle community. There are a few houses across the street, not seperated by water, and a trailer park further south at Route 50 and a little west of 589. That park is close to 1/4 mile if I were to guess.

So for those of you plugged into OC, does the MD voter approval of slots mean that OC will be getting some soon?
My family and I decided some time ago to sell our OC unit (been there for 10 years) and buy in VA Eastern Shore if the slots were approved and started showing up in OC, so now I guess we need to start getting prepared to list.
Uggh. Bad market, lots of work to prep. Oh well - I don't want to be around to see what happens next so I guess we need to get started.
