DeanM, you my friend are another one that needs a life. In fact your are either releated to Britt or are her neighbor! I clearly dont have the time right now to respond to your ingnorant response, but networking/ advertising on the internet is the new way to advertise. And to mention my post count.... really, thats irelevant.... so what, i wont get invited to the Ocean City Forum Christmas party for being in the top 10 for post count but have fun my friend! Go watch tv or can you not because your been too busy posting on this forum to realize there was a DTV transistion today....

It's all good. Don't get angry. First off, I'm a guy!!! LOL. Secondly, I have a legitimate concern regarding the post that forcemajor put up. Several years ago, the Maryland Coastal Dispatch had a forum much like this one that was used quite frequently. One day, a local restaurant or bar (can't remember) advertised a band or drink special. No big deal, I admit. But suddenly, everyone started advertising on their forum and the next thing ya know. Porn sites and various other "Sham-wow" type companies started flooding in. The administrator couldn't keep up with the spamlike posts and viruses started to plague the site. Within a month, the Maryland Coastal Dispatch shut down their forum. That was three years ago and they've never even considered restarting their forum.

I have nothing against forcemajor or his band. I actually hope they did well this weekend end. I'm a big fan of Castaways and love the atmosphere of the place. I just fear that he could have opened a pandora's box by placing an ad in here. As a compromise, it might be helpful if the Admin starts an "ads and promotions" thread/room.

As for having no life, I have gone to OC on vacation every year but one since I was born. Being 35 years old, it's the one place I can go each year and be totally relaxed. Up until about 4 years ago, it was that week only that I would get to enjoy the beach. Now with forums like these, I can talk with various people that have that common interest as well. It makes me feel like I'm a little bit closer to OC each time I get to talk with the people in here. If that makes me a no-lifer, so be it.

By the way, I made pork chops on the grill that night. They weren't bad.

Again, my only concern is what forcemajor's post may lead to, not the actual content of his post.

I have absolutely no problem with Restaurants, Bars, Bands, Golf Courses, etc. posting their happenings on this board. How the he!! else are we supposed to know what's going on? Vendors, post away!

Do you realize the number of restaurants, bars, bands, golf courses, (&don't forget hotels and condos for rent) ect. that are in ocean city?

Do you understand if each and everyone of them used this forum to advertise you'd never get finished reading all of theses commercial threads, because new ones would be printed faster then you could read them???

...and to answer the question as "how to know what the Hell is going on"? here's a clue - the reason why T.V., radio, newspapers, magazines, AND websites exist is because people PAYto advertise their businesses through them. I own 2 separate businesses & when I promote I pay for it... what you are talking about is no better then sticking flyers under windshield wipers.

So I guess I stand alone here (and that's fine) but mark my words - if you open a discussion forum up to private advertisement, it's the beginning of the end. You'll have no regular members, and the independents that do post on here will lose all credibility because people won't know if they are giving honest reviews or if it's secretly being done by a company to promote their own business.

If a person can't find out what's going on by utilizing the local papers (who also have web sites) or watching OC's local channel 10 they'll never figure it out.
Ban commercial threads now admin.

If someone is using this Forum to advertise, they are definitely not good promoters. There are only four of us left...but hey, maybe the four of us would have a great time at a Force Major concert listening to "Russian Rock!"

I too agree with Britt4Duke and DeanM - commercial posts are not appropriate on the forum. If there are multiple threads that are nothing but advertisements, people will be not bother to read the forum that is clogged with commercials. The purpose of the forum is to have a discussion of the resort town that is special to all of us that post on this site. We are here to share our experiences, offer suggestions, and warn others about the not-so-good experiences we have had. Posting commercials and offering nothing else does not enhance the content of this forum.
