Just a little background before I get to my question.

When my brother and I were kids, our family would vacation in OC with my aunt, uncle and 4 cousins. At times, we had even more extended family down there at the same time, accumulating as many as 30 people on the beach. Needless to say, these vacations were a source of many fond memories. We have not been to Ocean City as a family since 1982, although many of us have been there as smaller family groups throughout the subsequent years.

Cut to present day...

We all have extended families now, with some cousins married with children, etc. We have been talking for years about how much fun it would be to have a family reunion vacation in OC after all these years. I finally got off my $&% and planned it. The only week everyone could agree on was the week of June 21. It's a little earlier than we used to go, but at least it's set. I have been putting together some really neat things in a blog as a way for the family to communicate, including some old pictures that I scanned. One of the regular things we did as small children was go to Playland every year. Not Marty's Playland on the Boardwalk, but Playland the amusement park, which sat behind 63rd and 64th street I think. We would also play golf at the Old Pro course close to there. It was 3 different courses I think, a western theme, a circus theme and a space theme. That facility is still there, but those old courses are long gone and the courses have been replaced with newer ones, and even an indoor course or two.

So, after all of that, my question is this. Does anyone have, or know where I might find, pictures of the old Playland and/or those original Old Pro courses? I found a reference or two to Playland searching this forum, but found nothing to speak of.

Thanks for reading,

Bel Air Steve

If you use the search function up above, and type in "old photos" it will help you out.

Bel Air Steve,

Below, please find three pictures of classic Old Pro Golf pictures from the mid to late 80’s era. I scanned them from a book entitled Miniature Golf by John Margolies.

Picture #1 is the bone graveyard located in the 3 in 1 Old Pro courses in northern OC on the bayside. There are three courses to choose from at this location: Pirate Ship, African Safari, or a Hawaiian-themed course. The bone graveyard was in the African-themed course.

Picture #2 is from the Circus Course, and is still in existence today, except they changed the theme to a “Medieval Knights” theme. They simply turned the circus tent into a fortress I believe.

Picture #3 is from Granny’s Gold Rush, which was in northern OC bayside in its day. Although this was NOT an Old Pro, it was a great course complete with teepees and other Indian-themed stunts. It was torn down to make way for a Dough Roller about eight years ago.

You may also want to search the news archives of my website http://ochh.net because I may have a few older pictures of OC from the 70’s or 80’s that you may enjoy looking at.

Hope this helps.

Brandon
