I'm always looking for good places to eat on the way to OC.

Where do you stop to eat?

I typically like places that are quick and reasonably priced. I'd like to know where people recommend stopping on the way.

I am particularly intersted in places on or near Rt 50 on the Eastern Shore past the Rt 404 turn since it seems I always end up with fast food when traveling that route, and there is nothing I know of past Cambridge.

Here are some of my preferences.

Near Kent Island Bridge: Lots of places there, but tend to be nicer and fancier than I am looking for with 4 kids

Grasonville: Holly's - Always excellent food (try the soup!), but good food takes some time to make, not slow, but not speedy either.

Rt 404 Bridgeville: Jimmy's Grill - Great food, great service, can be a litle slow, often crowded, very affordable (cash only).

Route 13 Seaford: Seaford Eagle Diner - Typical good diner. Large selection, good meal, reasonable price.

Fastfood is available at:
West of Bay Bridge - McDonalds
Bay Bridge to 301 split - various
Queenstown - Subwayi n the outlets
Rt 50 Easton - McD, DQ
Rt 50 Cambridge - McD
Rt 404 Denton - McD, Subway
Rt 404 Bridgeville - McD, Checkers
Rt 113 404 to Rt 90 - McDs (3) and a few others

I usually try to wait until I get to OC to eat, but since we don't have any in Baltimore, I sometimes stop at Hardee's.

If going East, the one in Cambridge because it'll be on your right. If going West, the one in Easton because it'll be on your right. Seriously, don't go to the one in Easton is you're going East. That traffic light is one of the longest in the state of Maryland.

Driving from Pa, we pack a couple sandwiches and stop at the Maryland Welcome Center (which is exactly two hours from home), then we stop again in Cambridge at the Arby's. Don't eat again till we get to OC. On the way home, it's a must stop at the Chesapeake Bay Gourmet in the Queenstown Outlets just before we go across the bridge. Then we stop in Breezewood for a drink or small bite. Then home. We are creatures of habit. We've followed this same schedule for at least 9 years.

We don't usually stop on the way down, except for gas and to use the restrooms. We pack snacks and drinks for the ride. But on the way home we like to stop at Holly's for breakfast or lunch and then in Breezewood for a snack.

Beachy, I hear Holly's is decent. How is it really? We've driven past it hundreds of times and a lady at the Outlets reccommended it. Easy access to the highway once you get off?

It's on the right side of the road going home, just before the bridge. Very easy access, although we have only stopped there on the way home, as for stopping on your way there, I have no idea how difficult it would be. We have never had a bad meal there. Decent prices too.:)

I've eaten there 3 or 4 times and always found the food very good. It's basic fare, sandwiches, seafood, soups (both crab soups are excellent). More info at http://www.hollysrest.com/. It is also kid friendly and there is a park acros the parking lot for kids to run around to burn off some energy before getting back in the car.

Getting to Holly's is easy whether going East or West on Route 50.

When going East to OC:
Use Exit 43B Cross overpass to Saddler Rd.

When going West to Bay Bridge:
Use Exit 43A, Jackson Creek Rd.

Here's a map from their website:

We stopped at Jimmy's Grille in Bridgeville last October and I am suprised it hasn't been closed by the health department. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of houseflys throughout the dining room landing everywhere. Also, when you go to pay your bill you have a direct view of the deplorable manner in which the kitchen is kept. It appears no one has attempted to use a broom or mop in years. And need I bring up the cleanliness of the restrooms?
