We are coming to town the last week of Aug with a 1 and 2.5 year old would you stay on or off of the boards?

With most Maryland schools starting back before that weekend, I think you're safe on the boards if that's what you want.

I have never felt unsafe on the boards in July.

Not really sure from reading your post as to why you are on a fence with this, but to me the boards are your best bet. No busy street to cross with little ones like that is always a plus. Even if you stay ocean front on the streets above the boards you will still need to use your car to take them places, if you stay on the boards you can put them in a double stroller and roll right out of your hotel for food, entertainment, and shoping. I've stayed on the boards in years past and never moved my car all week!

Shanon2-Can you give us more details? What exactly are your concerns, if it's safety that has been addressed.

We aim to please here.:)

stay on the boards it is easier with kids the beach is right there. You will not have to worry about crossing streets and dragging a cooler or chairs across streets.

My concerns with staying on the boards was the crowded beaches and the noise factor at night. I don't think I have ever felt unsafe anywhere in OC.

My concerns for off of the boards was having to drive and park to go the boards. How much does it cost to park in the inlet?

We have stayed both on and off in the past years but this is the first time coming with children( my one year old and 2.5 nephew). We usually park and don't move because we take the bus everywhere. But don't think it will be easy to ride bus with the boys.

Also we were kinda looking for a place with a cooktop so we could make lunch or breakfast to help the budget a bit. The only two I found were the Commander and the Beachmark.

Thanks for your help.

We were down July 16th to the 21st and the crowds were not what they usually are that time of year. Beach was not crowded, you could always find a spot, and with little ones that young, you will probably hit the beach earlier than we would, so you shouldn't have a problem. As far as noise at night, in all the years we've been going down, we've always stayed on the Boardwalk and haven't had much trouble hearing anything in our room at night. What has already been said is correct..schlepping chairs, carts, coolers, etc across the Coastal Highway does not look like much fun. We've never had to park at the inlet, so I have no idea about that. It's so much better to be able to just walk out the front of your hotel and there is the beach, food, entertainment, etc. We've getting older and not moving the car starts to sound better and better. This last time, we only moved the car twice in a week. We stayed at the Comfort Inn on 5th Street and the Boardwalk twice and they have a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave and 2 burner cook top and sink and they supply pots, pans, dishes, silverware, etc. It's a nice place, clean and close to everything. Everyone at the front desk was friendly. Hope that helps.:)
