City Council member Joe Hall posted this on Facebook during a discussion about more parking meters in OC. Oh, and he can't spell either.
"
Joseph T Hall II It is very difficult for you to make informed choices when people are only feeding you part of the idea that support their closed minded views. The council has only asked for the big picture on parking meters. No one, even me has suggested blanketing ocean city with meters. I'm biggest supporter of getting users of our roads to pay for street repairs. Meter's do that. Why should property owners pa...y the whole 41 million in needed road repair and the day trippers and visitors that flood our roads and trash our town ride free. This is not about wheather we can or can't do roads. We have too. We are behind. This is who is the fairest to pay. I think it has to come from property tax and meter revenue. It's to big of number to be payed totally by one or the other. Please get whole picture before making up your mind. This bill is out there and it must be paid. We can no longer pass the ball down the road for another year. We can't afford to be city of no.Joseph T Hall II I welcome them to town open armed. Just feel they must pay their fair share and respect our town while they are visiting. No boby want there home trashed and if a guess does they should pay to have it cleaned up. There is huge cost to property owners of this town in hosting millions of tourist each year. In doing so there should be some kind of reward to the tax payer. People sit on council and make reasons to spend tax payer money to bring more tourist to town. If there is no positive gain in tax relief to property owners and residents the we are only growing city government for sake of growing government. As a property owner we should be enjoying lower taxes for all we do for tourisim. We have been out of balance for years. leaning heavier on tax payers and spending more on guests. If spending more on guests were giving more tax relief that would be great. I say we are just spending more and costing tax payer more. This has to change to keep us competative. Here's a link to the FB page. https://www.facebook.com/#!/CitizensForOC?sk=wall
I for one am offended by this mans comments. While I can understand that he is trying to say that the whole bill for road maintenance shouldn't fall on the residents, he needs a lesson in tact.

Here's a little bit more from Mr. Hall on this subject:
"The fact is we don't get to pick and choose who crosses our bridge and more than a few, but not all don't respect our town. The use our town and leave a mess behind and hard working and vested property tax payers are left to pay and clean up after them. people that drive across bridge or in rt 54 bringing all they need with them for their day at the beach. use our street and beach not spending a dime go home outside of town and have't payed a dime to maintain the town. happens hundreds of times over daily thoughout the summer. we have more than roads to pay for. We have over one hundred million of backed up infrastucure to plan for over the next ten years. We will need many new revenue sources to pay for this. Tax payers have clearly said property tax has been pushed enough."
Joe Hall is an idiot with an 8th grade education!!!!!!!! His ignorant comments are HIS thoughts, not how OC residents feel about tourists.
What a buffoon. Complaining about daytrippers even. How dare they bring their own stuff. They should spend a thousand dollars at least, budget be damned. Maybe people can start hovering into OC instead of using the roads.

You are being gracious ImightKnow, I'm fairlly certain that my eighth grade class would have gotten a "D" at best for that composition...spelling aside I guess he never thought to proofread it or having someone educated to proofread it first. Sad to think he sits in a power seat in OC.
I think it was posted in another thread, but can someone refresh my memory as to what the Hall family owns and operates in OC? I will be sure to avoid them at all expense.
Hall's Restaurant, not sure about any other places.

Part of the problem is people vote for the name without doing research into the candidate and his/her views.

His views are clear now. Spelling and grammar aside, his attitude towards the tourists that come to enjoy Ocean City is very distressing. I hope we don't get into a self-fulfilling prophesy; if you treat tourist like they trash your town, they will more than likely start to trash your town.
Hearing this guy speak at City Council meetings is downright painful. The sad thing is that I'm pretty certain he was re-elected after a few years off of the council. Most of the time he can't even form a complete sentence. Truthfully, the majority of the current C.C. is a pretty pathetic bunch.

Sounds like the reason Dennis Dare got the boot. OC grew with Dennis in the direction I think most of us have enjoyed...future is unknown; plus the present council will be picking his replacement...very sad thought. No one behind Dennis is qualified or wants the job? I find that hard to believe...they know what is in store if they got the position I guess.
When is this guys term UP!! He needs to go big time!!
I can understand his frustration but to make statements like this when you serve a town who's entire financial life depends on outsiders is completly absurd. I also get frustrated when I see the way tourist trash OC, but guess what, I live in WV and our own people trash our state. It's a fact of life anymore, people are generally pigs and have no problem leaving their messes for others to clean up. I clean a Christian School and Church. You can't imagine what garbage I find in church pews and pew racks.
I'm glad to know what business this clown operates, I'll be sure to avoid it when I'm down in Ocean City.
Maybe in WV! But people are not "generally" PIGS!

I pretty much agree with everything you say.
Maybe he was only talking abou the H20 crowd! :) (Hap made me say it.!)
The bad thing is he said it on FB. It's out there. He can never deny saying it. Can't take it back now. But I can honestly say that he's in the minority on Council when it comes to this attitude. And I will still go to OC and love it.

Oh, there is always plausible deniability. Let's try the phrase "Some nefarious character compromised my password and posted those things on my account."
Not trying to defend the guy, but Facebook is ridiculously easy to break into peoples accounts.
True.
Any relation Bob?

I honestly don't know. There's a branch of the Hall's that are related to me in Maryland but as far as I know they are in the Taneytown and Westminster region.

Reason #27 to avoid this place.....
Choice of words would have made this statement much better then Mr. Halls. Maybe, the statement should go as followed; Visitors enter our city, enjoy their stay, but leave trash behind as they leave. This trash must be collected, and disposed of by the cities waste management. (private or public)
Dean,
I know Reason #1 is that the food is lousy. I'm interested in Reasons #2-26...

I've made it clear here in the past that I am no fan of the Hall's. Despite the fact that his choice of words were pretty ignorant, the fact of the matter is he was 100% right. The taxpayers of OC do foot the bill for tourists and I would be insane to say otherwise. I'm getting ready to buy a place in Myrtle Beach where they tax tourists for everything. If it comes down to taxing tourists an extra 10% I'm all for it if it means I'm not paying for it in property taxes.
I just helped out with some tax dollars. I paid $21.00 in taxes for a one night stay in a hotel.
Good luck with your Myrtle Beach purchase. My brother in law bought there 10 years ago and can't wait to get out of there. Crime has gone through the roof.
Depends on what part of MB you're in. Unfortunately, the prices are 1/2 of what they are in OC. When you can purchase an oceanfront condo for $150k you have to think about it. Besides I plan to use this as a longterm rental not a vacation rental.
Ocean City Does need to clean up its own trash first before it considers anything else. They need to place strict codes about the condition of properties in the inlet area. These eye sores, that they call apartments, need to promote a clean city, not one that is run down. The policy they have in place for the past two years is doing great, but they must take things a step further to improve the image. I love the change to the Buckingham Hotel that just resurfaced last year or the year before. This needs to be in place for all buildings.

Not necessarily. OC collects like $11M in room taxes every year, I believe.

Joe Hall seriously needs to stop posting comments... ZZ Top REALLY!?!? and using the term "I's". Come on man!!!!!!!!
How about a band that was bigger in the 80's rather in the 70's. Those between the age od 25-35 have the most DISPOSABLE income out of any. They are willing to pay to see currently famous acts, not washed up 60's cover bands like the HUBCAPS
i do not think ocean city is trashed at all. there are many other placees that are much more trashy the OC! It is one of my favorite vacationing spots!
hmmm. Why would I pay to see a band on the beach when I can just stand 1/2 a block away and listen to it? Trust me, I pay plenty of property tax in OC. If there's a realtor from OC out there what is the current absorption rate? When I can go to Myrtle and purchase a 3b/2ba condo on the water for 1/3 -1/2 what I can get a 2b/2ba for in OC then I'm going south.
Myrtle Beach was nice years ago, but it is becoming a troubled area.
Myrtle Beach at $5/gallon would be disasterous.
Terp84alum,
Let's not get carried away. At $5 per gallon, it would cost you $30 more (than $3.50/gallon at 25 miles/gallon) to get from Philadelphia to Myrtle Beach. Less from Baltimore or D.C. The gas excuse drives me nuts. People pay hundreds and even thousands in rent to go on vacation, but $30 poses a hardship? I don't get it. I think people perceive the problem to be bigger than it is.

Where the heck are you only paying $3.50/gallon and let alone getting 25mpg with the current ethynol mix in the gas. My car was getting 22-28 before ethynol now it's 17-24 at best.
He reads the tourist ads.
Myrtle is still falling, and if we save the $300,000 we are spending on fireworks, and a laser show, and spend it on cleaning the city....Maybe we could improve. It's amazing what people spend money on. ??????
Monte's numbers might be skewed but he is exactly right: if you can't afford an extra $100 on your vacation then you ought to just stay home. I will never understand that argument. And if you read the polls neither do others who aren;t changing vacation plans because of rising gas prices.

Even if it were to climb up to $5 a gallon: if I sat down and dissected my entire vacation expenses for a peak week in Ocean City, the cheapest thing I'd do is put gas in my tank to get there....
My point exactly...
Soooo true.
As long as we are getting the opportunity to go to OC, the price of gas is also the least of my worries compared to the other expenditures like rooms and tax, food, entertainment and souveniers. Not to mention the little things you discover you need once you get there that you had forgotten while planning your vacation. We are just very grateful to be going on a vacation during these crappy economic times. Yay OC!
It reminds me of the uproar when they raised the price of the Bay Bridge for the first time since 1975 by $2.50 round trip. I'm sure that no one is coming to OC now because of $2.50. My only concern was for the commuters that crossed the Bay Bridge each day to get to work.
Yeah it's not like your spending the $48 it takes to get to downtown NYC. Don't forget the $38 four hour parking garage...wait O.C. Is almost the same price for parking right?...lol
I know of a great parking garage in NYC that is 2 blocks from grand central station. Go there everytime and I drive a crossover. It costs me 25 bucks for all day parking on saturdays.
stuff like that is what pisses me off, why is that there are people like mr. hall who talk a how bunch of crap about a group of people that make up most of the revenune for the city? this makes me wonder if i should or shouldn't move to ocean city and move some somewhere close by in delaware

Well if you move to OC, I know who you won't be voting for.
