Hi! Just got back from another great trip to OC! I'm missing it already :(

Anyways - here's the report

Arrived in OC on Thursday around 11 - went directly to Fager's Island for lunch. Hubby had the Mushroom Swiss Burger and I had the Jerk Chicken BLT. Mine was good - but hubby found a hair midway thru his sandwich - lost his appetite. I don't think we will be back here.

Thursday evening we hit Macky's around 10 pm. Service SUCKED, but food was ok...nothing special, but it was late night fare.

Friday we went to Hooper's. Started with a drink at Sneaky Petes - then to the deck for AYCE Crabs. Food was good and plenty of it.

Saturday we went to Phillips - BIG MISTAKE - Awful, just awful - I know that AYCE places are bad to begin with, but we had never been here and thought we'd give it a try.....NEVER AGAIN - in fact, we have sworn off all AYCE places.

Sunday we went to Jolly Rogers Splash Lagoon and had pizza in the park $14.00 for 8 cuts says it all.... Later we went to Fish Tales and it was very good. I had the Crab Roll and hubby had some kind of Fish Taco thing. He said it wasn't bad, but wouldn't get it again.

Monday we had lunch at Bull on the Beach (Boardwalk) and it was the best meal we had all week! Great food, period! Later, we hit Seacrets for happy hour and sunset - AWESOME VIEW! Ordered the Crab Dip in a bread bowl...I'm pretty sure they were trying to pass off tuna fish for crab in this. It wasn't good - but the Pain in De A** were!! Later we hit the Pirates Den for $1.99 Rum Runners...it was a fun time!!

Fill in's included Dumser's Ice Cream, Fisher's popcorn, Thrasher's Fries, etc.

Come on August 2009!!! :D

Good report. You should do your homework on Phillip's. It's a big no-no with nothing but foreign seafood. The boardwalk standards are great to me, but it seems you hit what I would call every tourist trap in OC. I find Fish Tales to have decent bar food/snacks, and the same for Bull, but I can't stand the other places. Macky's, Fager's and Seacrets are known for the bar, not the food. If I had to pick one place to never go again, it would be Macky's. It screams tacky tourist trap with a bunch of punk bartenders, endless self promotion and overpriced everything.

I totally agree....we wanted to try new places and unfortunately, didn't choose well. It is so hard to decide where to go...next year we will have to plan better!

Hello all, I too am just back from a week in OC. We went to Fish Tales for the first time and my family loved it. We went for lunch, and everyone enjoyed it. The adult swings are nice to hang around in. We to ate at the Bull on the Beach, twice in fact, that is our vacation tradition, we start off vacation at the bull for lunch with margaritas. Excellent food. We also went to Embers, we were very disappointed. The food was not that great this year. Had been a while since we went in there and can honestly say we will not be going back any time soon. Did happy hour at Big Peckers, can't complain about that. Have to say though we were not happy with the service in these places. We went to Dumser for ice cream one night, sat inside, there was 8 of us, and our waitress stood at one end of the table and passed water glasses down instead of handing to each person. When the ice cream came she tried doing that again with the sundaes until I finally said, isn't your job to serve the ice cream instead of us spilling the sundaes all over the place. Well she did not like that comment, so I told her well if you don't serve the ice cream like your supposed to, being that is your job, then I guess you don't get a tip, because I'm doing all the work. That really set her off, still gave her very small tip. All in all it was a great week downthere.

deedee you have ruined my retirement plans!

Until now my plans were to retire to OC and run an ice cream stand on the sole premise that NOBODY is every angry or unhappy while eating ice cream. You have now proven, once again, that there are no absolutes in life. ;-)

I guess I'm also one of the few folks who just doesn't get fish tales. Not that I don't like the place but I just don't get the fascination. Maybe it's just too crowded for my liking. Seems anytime there's a crowd there's people involved and that often ruins the experience!

Maybe that beachfront hot dog stand will still work out for me. Has anyone ever been angry while eating a hot dog???

pghDave - I think your hot dog stand would be a hit. I have always wondered why there is not some kind of hot dog stand on the boardwalk that sells hot dogs with all kinds of different toppings to put on them. That would be a smash hit I would think.

As for me, if I was served ice cream in such fashion - BFD! I guess I may be a bit too much of an easy going guy. But, to each his or her own.

There was at one time the "Weiner Wagon" on the beach at the MD/DE line. I don't know if its still there. My guess is they would do better hawking their weiners in Rehobeth.....
