Interesting. How did the state determine that the ride was safe for one more year?
MATTERHORN RIDE AT TRIMPER'S
From the way I understand it, the state’s requirement has been carried out for years leading up to this one, however, it is simply too expensive to continue on, considering the ride’s original manufacturer is no longer in business, and parts are no longer accessible. I think it involves opening up each individual car (which were manufactured as one piece, so need to be cut and welded back together). If I receive more information, I will share it with you.

Terrapin, I think you are talking about the Himalaya ride next to the fun house. It is similar in concept to the Matterhorn in the sense that you are in a cart that rotates from a central gear drive. There are subtle differences though. The Matterhorn's carts are suppended from metal arms that rotate and the Himalaya's carts roll along a track. I remember at one point many years ago that the Matterhorn only went clockwise as opposed to the Himalaya which always went both ways. I could have sworn I saw the Matterhorn going counter-clockwise though recently so maybe it was changed. Either way I would hate to see any of them go but if I had to choose one it would probably be for the Matterhorn to go. The Himalaya just always seemed a little more upbeat and well maintained. Oh and the Matterhorn is the ride with the musicians/instruments and the Himayala is the one with the mountain theme rightfully so.
Hoping to be a local...eventually
The Trimpers have not yet sold the Inlet Lodge and property. It is still in their possession. There is no plan to remove the rides on that lot as of now.

This season will be the last for the Matterhorn at Trimpers. The state will no longer allow the park to run the ride for safety issues that would be too costly to fix. Also, the company that originally built the ride is no longer in existence, so parts would all have to be custom made by outside companies. It will be retired after this summer.
