I've seen it too and wondered! My guess is that it looks like a boat slip for off-season storage up out of the water? But then how would the people get from the boat to dry land?
ITEM IN WATER- WHAT IS IT?
A few weeks ago I found through this forum that the big block of concrete in the bay around 66th street the the foundation for the former sky ride at the long gone Playland park.
I'm pretty sure you are correct:
I've always wondered what it was, too. Could it be some type of bird/duck/wildlife refuge?
I've thought of that, but it has been well maintained for a long time which does not seem common with such structures. Plus I've never seen another one, so if it works for wildlife why not replicate it, and if it doesn't work why maintain it?
It amazes me no one seems to know what it is.
You can see it at: http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=qcyqmz8r5c90&style=b&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=7792115&encType=1
Wow Mink66, you're quite the buzz killer.
With all these comments, I was beginning to become quite intrigued by what that structure was. My mind wondered, trying to think of what it could be!!!! Then you tell me its just a poop pipe!!! How disappointing!!!!!!
Ha ha
A few weeks ago I found through this forum that the big block of concrete in the bay around 66th street the the foundation for the former sky ride at the long gone Playland park. I've wondered what this was since I first spotted it a few years ago. Maybe people can solve another mystery for me.
When you cross the Route 90 bridge over the St. Martins river to the North of the bridge on the Ocean Pines side there is a wooden structure that looks like a dock in the water. It appears to be maintained, because it looks like it is in good shape and it has been there for as long as I can recall. It is not far off land, but it does not connect to land. It does not appear to have decking like a dock, but looks like it has two rows of wood that could serve as support for decking. I've figured perhaps it related to the nearby water treatment plant or is something for boaters. I've never seen any boats tied up here or people on or around it. Anyone know what this is?
