Remember "back in the day" before boogie boards, when you would use an inflatable canvas fabric raft (with the rope around the perimeter) to ride waves and float on?

I'm looking to buy a couple of those for myself and my 7 year old.

Does anyplace in OC still sell those?

I remember those rafts, but haven't seen them in ages... if you find them let me know too! those things were as tough as a 2 dollar steak! :)

I havn't looked for one in years, but I'd be shocked if you couldn't find one at Sunsations.

I would think sunsations would carry them too, (probably do) I just havent seen one on the beach or in the stores in years. I guess I really havent been looking either, but the more I think about it, I'd like to have a couple for the pool.

Yeah, you just don't see many inflatable, canvas rafts anymore. I used to use one all the time when I was a little guy. I switched to Boogie Boards when they came out, but for the last 20 years it's been nothing but body surfing for me - there's nothing quite like it.

That is.....until I saw this! I know it's for kids, but I simply must attempt to a catch a wave on that giant ducky! I don't know why, but I must!!

:D

I was sitting here thinking about this, and the last time I saw a raft in the ocean, the life guard called them in. Are you allowed to use them in the ocean? Just curious.

Yeah but they gave you one hell of a nipple rash!! I remember after spending most of a day on one when I was younger it hurt for even a T-shirt to touch my nipples. Perhaps I should have put some bandaids on them or something before I went out in the ocean. :D

The trick to that was a heavy weight 100% pre shrunk cotton Tshirt with the arms cut out!

The use of inflatable flotation devices is up to the discretion of the beach patrol. Just 2 days ago (Sunday) I was on the beach around 37th St. and a few people had one of those 2-person inflatalbe rafts out in the ocean all day. They really weren't floating among the groups of people closer to the shore so I think that's why the lifeguards did not hassle them. If they had continually gotten near the breakers and had their raft get caught by the waves a few times and whisked into fellow swimmers then I bet the lifeguards would have called them in and told them not to use it anymore while they are on patrol.
