Check out this incredible image that depicts the day after the storm of 1933 in Ocean City, and shows the “newly-formed” inlet. Visible in this image are the Capitol Theatre, the pier building, and the Trimper enterprise (carousel house and hotel where the Haunted House now resides).  The Dough Roller building that just recently burned can also be seen here I believe. If you look carefully behind the Trimper carousel building, you will see a structure that looks similar to a mini stadium. This was actually a boxing ring back in the day that sat on the Trimper property, where the Tidal Wave roller coaster now sits.

This is a really amazing picture! I"ve seen a few picts from the 1933 storm, but never one from this angle and with such good coverage of downtown.

Awesome!!! Amazed at the people standing in the water on the bayside on the "street". Does anyone know what the racetrack looking area is across the street from the Capitol Theatre is?

Wow!  That's an amazing picture!  It's hard to think of Ocean City that quaint and small..........so undeveloped.  Wouldn't it have been nice to have gone there then?  No traffic, no crowds, no overpriced condos?  But that is a cool picture.

Amazing! I love looking at old photos of OC. I wish I had a time machine. I'd go back and catch a boxing match down at the inlet and maybe 25 cent ice cream cone!?

That is a great picture!  The boxing ring is quite interesting, and I noticed the same racetrack thing across from the Capitol Theater.  I would love to know what that is.  I am wondering if the standing water on the right side of the picture is the bay, or if there is another strip of land further to the right that we can't see.  I would assume that the people walking in the water are coming from land.  I am also interested to know when the inlet parking lot was made.  In this picture, what is now the parking lot is the Atlantic Ocean.  Is the Capitol Theater still standing?  If so, what is it now?

I just googled the Hurricane of 1933, and I found this image gallery from the Baltimore Sun.  Some of the pictures show the same thing as above from a different angle.  Check it out...

Those are great! Thanks for sharing! It is terrifying to think about the effects of such a storm today—catastrophic. The scary thing is that we are overdue, and it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when at this point. When you look at aerial images of OC, you begin to realize just how fragile the strip of land is—from the sky it looks like a toothpick! I guess we can just hope for the best.

Thanks Montego! I especially like the picture of the old car burried in the sand!
