Finally heading own again we are feeling well enough to head down. Going on the 19th for Winterfests opening night. Going to be first time down since febuary plan on visiting Assateague for the first time in 2 years.  While my ability t walk and hike is limited these days I always felt like going to OC was like coming home and can't wait to get back will try and post winterfest pictures when we get back home.

I'm so excited for you!  You will have a fantastic time!  The lights are amazing, and there is something so peaceful about that time of year.  I was down that weekend last year, and we went to Assateague as well.  It was beautiful and the kids had a blast running all of the beach.

We are hoping to get down to see the lights in December.  We are doing a Disney Trip, leaving Thanksgiving morning, so we won't be down until at least December.  But we will be sure to get down to see the lights before xmas.

Enjoy the trip!

We go down Thanksgiving weekend, We have been doing this for about 17 years and it never gets old. It has become a family tradition to go see the lights at Northside Park then we go to dinner and then back to the condo to watch the movie Christmas Vacation.
Even though we know the movie by heart we still laugh and just have a really good time. We can't wait.

Question about Assateague: I hear that, during the off season, you can find amazing shells on the beach over there. Any truth to that??

There were lots of shells when we were there.  A bunch of them are still under the back seat of our mini-van.

Are they huge? People told me they were collecting whole conch shells.

Honestly have never gone shell collecting there wut will take a look when there. Have been there in January a couple of time but usually just rive through see the ponies get my annual pass and leave as it is too cold to be on the beach.

Yes, I have heard that as well.  Especially after big storms which have a tendency to shift around the sand and reveal some of the ocean's treasures.

The shells are actually whelks and resemble conchs.  We found two real nice whole ones on Thanksgiving morning last year on the OC oceanfront near the pier.  We will be going down this year again.  OC in Thanksgiving is our new family tradition.  Who can beat the beach, Winterfest lights, Dumsers and striper fishing on AI.
