I just booked a room at the Harrison Hall Hotel for August. Can anyone tell me anything about this place. It was reasonably priced and they had what we wanted (Queen bed, non smoking oceanfront). It will be me, my wife and 2 Y/O daughter.

Any help is appreciated.

Harrison Hall needs some work, but it has a wonderful charm about it. The tripadvisor reviews are pretty negative, to say the least, but the rates are very reasonable and it is an Ocean City landmark.

If you are not too picky, I say go for it.

I've never stayed there, so I really can't tell you about the rooms, but I do know, that you don't have any balcony.

Ocean City: Harrison Hall: "THE WORST!!!!"
Oct 12, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Pennsylvania

Would I stay at this location again: no way!
Stayed at the Harrison Hall for labor day weekend.....It was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at!!! I get to OC alot and stayed at numerous hotels, but this was very bad!! looking at it online did not look like it at all.!!! False advertisement. First of all it is a very old hotel and it should be torn down. The evlevators are sooooo old it takes for every to get anywhere. The rooms are sooooo dirty and outdated. I was afraid to lay on the sheets, fearing what would be under them. The pool outside was really dirty, I don't think it was cleaned since it was put in. I would sleep in my car before I would stay there again!!!!!! GROSS

I stayed at the Harrison Hall in June of 2003 for one night. After reading some of the reviews they are right on the money. Don't waste your money on this hotel it's a joke. The room is tiny and I didn't even use the shower. Honestly the shower scared me. In all the hotels I've stayed at I have never seen a shower like that one. I really think its the original from the 50's , I'm not kidding. Also the seniors were so bad and noisy that I didn't fall asleep till 3 or 4. The hotel actually shook. I can't believe no one in the hotel called the police. When I went down to complain and try to get my money back all I got from the woman at the desk was sarcasm. She said what did I expect with the junebugs in town. So I waited for the manager to come in and I think it was around 8am. I was hopping mad by this time. He wouldn't refund my wife and I for that night. But the second night that we had payed for he sent us to one of their other properties which was very nice. I think it was the Day's Inn. The Harrison group owns like 6 or 7 other hotels in oc. That room was really nice and the price I payed was valid for there. If you want to enjoy your vacation do not stay here no matter how cheap it is. That year they had a promotion that if you stayed at the Harrison Hall you could come back in September or October for $10 or $15 a night. They called it customer appreciaton weeks or something like that. Even at that price I said no thanks. I would rather pitch a tent on the beach or dig a hole and stay there till the police show up.

Ocean City: Harrison Hall: "Nothing Like the Brochure"
Sep 19, 2005: , Sanford, Florida

This was my husband's (boyfriend at the time) first time to the beach and I wanted everything to be perfect. When I got the brochure for the Harrison Hall it look like one of those old cute little victorian places by the ocean. Boy was I wrong! The whole place smelled smokey and musty. The room was the size of a postage stamp. The bathroom was terrible; water pressure was a trickle. Coming back from the beach the first thing you usually do is take a shower and we couldn't even do that. We did like the pool though. The ocean was great as well as the boardwalk. Do extensive research when booking a hotel in Ocean City. Don't trust the properties websight or brochure. I just wish I knew about trip advisor when I was planning this trip.

my son looked this up because we trusted the ad to be honest...we were on top of each other, my mom asked for another room, of course we weren't given one...then the next day on the beach a family the same size told us they pais $200.00 less for the four day stay, starting on a sunday eve at 5:30 pm. my mom was charged $178.00 for check in 5:30 pm sunday,
the other family $99.00 and the same the rest of the 4 nights, we were charged about $140.00 per night. when i confronted the manager she refused to match their rate and we were even on the same floor with the same kind of room....

how awful for such a cubicle of a room to not accomodate customers

Ocean City: Harrison Hall: "it was the smallest room i have ever seen in my life!!!!"
Aug 23, 2005:

My experience with this hotel took place in:
August, 2005

Would I stay at this location again: probably not
My husband, two sons (5 and 14 mo) stayed at Harrison Hall last week (aug 16-19). The hotel looked nothing like the brochure. The lobby was okay, but the room absolutely stunk!!!!!!!!! It was the smallest room I have ever seen in my life!!!!!! I informed the hotel that I had two small children and the room didnt even have a bath tub! It had a disquisting stall shower! The bathroom looked terrible. It was small and the ceiling looked mildewed! The room had a twin and a full bed and absolutley no where to walk. We decided to put the two beds together. When we pulled the nightstand out the floor was flithy and someone else's belonging were still there. The entire hotel needed a remodel! There was a restaurant downstairs. We chose not to eat there because of the back of it was boarded up with cardboard boxes and it looked abandoned! The pool was okay. The best thing about this hotel was the exit!!! ( to the boardwalk and beach)

NY-MD, I guess that explains why the "vacancy" sign was always lit in mid july. :D

DeanM

If you take the time to look you just might find the answers whether you like them or not.

When I was much younger, not to bright and had little money I did stay in some places that were lets say....... Less then good.

Now if I am traveling or even more when on vacation I need a minimal quality of acceptability.

The original poster will be traveling with his wife and 2 year old just my opinion but I would rather make my stay shorter or vacation off season instead of staying at this type of place.

This truly shows the value of forums like this and the Tripadvisor if people would just use them.

After reading the reviews I posted I would have a tough time walking past this place.

And YES you don't have to be a detective to figure out when you find a place with vacancies in JULY at a reasonable rate (cheap) you just might be headed for a vacation you will never forget.

Hopefully emsgod will get the message if not best of luck.....

Thank You! I appreciate all of the feedback. I got on that advisor site and read the 95% negative feedback. I have since cancelled my reservations and went with the Plim Plaza where we stayed a couple times in the past. I need a tub and a roomy place for my daughter. Not a small hole in the wall.

I really like the Grand Hotel where we stayed last year but it doesn't fit into our budget this year.

Once again, THANK YOU to everyone. l appreciate the help you provided. You guys are great.

We stayed there once. Every time the people in the floor above us flushed their toilet, water would come cascading down our wall. Management's response was that they were booked but they'd be willing to find us another room in another hotel.

NEVER AGAIN.

Stayed at the Plim last year for 3 nights! HORRIBLE! Bugs crawling in the bathroom and bedroom area. Water dripping in our room too from up above! Custodian who actually told us he went into another guests room and "stole" their remote for us! Vomit on the carpet in the hallway at 5:00 a.m. when we were leaving and after telling the front desk lady about it her response was "There's noone on staff at this time to clean it up"! So, we continued to take our luggage to the vehicle and had to walk around the mess! I shoot off a letter to the management after getting back home and told them in detail (much more detail than this post)what had happened and threatened to notify the Better Business Bureau AND the OC Hotel & Convention Center Association. Within a week we received notification that they had credited our credit card one nights stay. On a brighter note....we loved their outdoor bar. The bartenders were very nice and very attentive. Great atmosphere! We will definatley not stay at the Plim again....in fact...we're staying at the Holiday Inn Suites....but we will definately visit the Plim's outdoor bar!

loveoc - Just to caution you, if you are not aware, the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites (and also the Holiday Inn Oceanfront) are owned by the same organization that owns the Plim Plaza, the Harrison Group. The Harrison Group owns the Plim Plaza, Harrison Hall, Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, Holiday Inn Oceanfront, Best Western Flagship, Quality Inn Boardwalk, Quality Inn Oceanfront, Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront, Oceanic Motel, and Seabonay Motel. They indeed have a vast array of properties, but it seems to me that they are very inconsistent. For instance, they own a few wretched properties, like the Plim, Harrison Hall, Oceanic, & Seabonay, but at the same time offer top quality accommodations at places like the Holiday Inn Suites. However, even some of their better properties that have been around for a good number of years, like the Quality Inns, Best Western, there have been many negative comments on this forum about these as well.

It just seems to me that this organization could care less about the consistent quality of their accommodations. If I went out into a hallway in a hotel where I was staying and there was vomit on the floor (probably from some immature drunk that arrived back to their room very late) and the hotel staff would not have it cleaned up, I would be extremely angry. However, I am glad that they did comp you for one night.

I thought that I should warn you that the Plim & Holiday Inn are owned by the same organization, just in case you would rather not patronize the same company that provided such lousy accommodations at the Plim Plaza.
