GOLDEN SANDS OR SEA WATCH?

Hello! I'm attending a wedding at the Golden Sands in October and am trying to decide whether to rent a mini week there or at Sea Watch, where some of my friends are staying.

Golden Sands "appears" to have more amenities (the deck, bar, and a few shops) and more of the GS units directly face the ocean. From the pictures I've seen taken from the Sea Watch balconies, many of the views are not that attractive and also look onto other balconies. Sea Watch is directly across from the mall, which may or may not be a good thing---it's convenient but perhaps too congested/noisy.

I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can lend. Thanks!

We stayed at the Golden Sands a few years back, absolutely wonderful oceanfront view. The day it rained, we were in the indoor pool. The only complaint I have about that place is that the wait for an elevator was very, very long. If we weren't on the 13th floor we would have taken the stairs. I have never stayed at the Sea Watch, but we have stayed in the Highpoint South, (2 blocks from the Sea Watch) and right across from the mall and the traffic there was no more congested than the traffic anywhere else in OC. Actually, it was quite convenient having the mall across the street, mall, beer/liquor, pharmacy, grocery store.....you could walk across the street if you needed anything and not have to move your car.

I've stayed at the Sea Watch, and had absolutely no complaints, it had a nice indoor, and outdoor pool, I believe there was also a pool bar there. The rooms were big and clean, with a great view of the ocean. Some rooms do have a ocean side view because of the shape of the building, but the ones in the middle are facing straight out at the ocean (ask your rental agent!). Now the only bad thing is the last time I stayed there was 20 years ago, so......

We stayed at the Golden Sands a few years ago in the first week of October. We were on the 17th floor and it was a great view, and the condo was very nice. However all of the shops and the bar were closed that are offered and we were told that they close after Sunfest. The elevators were a little slow but I would stay there again if we were looking for a condo.

Shannon,

You both anticipated and answered my unspoken question: Would the amenities advertised by Golden Sands (e.g.,tropical bar) still be in play for October renters? Doesn't sound like they would be. Many thanks.

We've stayed at Golden Sands in September, for the past three years and love it. Some of the shops and the outdoor bar are only open on weekends until Sunfest. The outdoor pool closes as well.
The lifeguards are no longer on duty after Sunfest weekend although the Beach Patrol is still present.
Some of the rules ease up in Sept. too. We didn't need pool passes. My sister and her husband were staying near the Boardwalk and they were able to park in GS lot any time they visited. There is no assigned parking spaces, you are free to park anywhere. Check in is at 2PM vs. 3PM but one year we were in the condo before 1. Also, no waiting for an elevator!!!
