The fractured Prune ummm. I remembered a few years ago of getting the greatest donuts I have ever ate. Still warm and made in front of you. There was a line of people waiting for them. They are the freshest most tasteful donuts you can get anywhere what a deal what a deal. Now I make a point of getting donuts everytime I am in OC. They also have some of the most creative and unusual donut flavors. :)

We just discovered it in October for the first time. My favorites (and the best ones in my opinion) are the OC Sand. YUMMY! As a matter of fact, The Fractured Prune being so close was one of the deciding factors as to what hotel we're staying in for Cruise In in May. We were at the Rodeway, now we'll be at the Dunes Manor. I plan on eating a bunch of those yummy things.

Beachbum:

Maybe you can help me out- I live in Ellicott City- and I saw on their website last Spring that there was supposed to be an Ellicott City Location opening- I emailed the address on the website AT LEAST 5 times with no replies- Not very good for business. Suposedly it was supposed to open in August- but every time I check, it's not opened yet.

Also- Where is the Ellicott City location supposed to be exactly? They really need to do a better job with the website, and the contact information.

Eric Lipton, whoever that is, needs to get his act together it seems. If they have an email address, he should respond to it.

That is so cool that you are the manager. I live not too far and will have to come pay a visit. I remember when I lived in OC one summer next door to the original Prune. (old purple house) My friends and I used to go over there right before they were closing and they would give us a bag full of that days donuts that were to be thrown out. To us that was a treat after eating macaroni and cheese all of the time. Those donuts sure do go nicely with beer.:)

We grew up on Josh's donuts as kids vacationing in OC. If anybody knows, was Josh's the same as Fractured Prune or were they separate entities? Our place is on 120th now and we never miss a morning of Fractured Prune. My usual order is a blueberry and a chocolate chocolate sprinkle.

Yes, Josh's was the direct predecessor to the Fractured Prune. The original store was a small red building on the Bayside of Coastal Highway at the foot of 46th street (just South of where the Satellite Cafe is today). Josh's was famous for their donuts, but they were really a small store that also sold beer, wine, and beach supplies. I think they also had some groceries and a small deli counter. I remember going in there when I was in college and my brother marveling that it was the first time he had seem every flavor and color of Mad Dog (MD) in one place! People lined up every morning for Donuts that were usually made by Josh himself or his family. This is one OC delicacy that is just as good today as it was back then!

Sometime between the summers of 1975 and 1976 Josh sold the business and it was renamed the Fracture Prune (see http://www.fracturedprune.com/family_tradition.php for details). It stayed in that location until the late 80s or early 90s when the building was torn down to make way for a Sunsations. The Prune moved to various locations in the area and near Ocean Pines until resettling at their locations near 28th and 125th streets.

I've been eating Josh's and Fractured Prune donuts since the late 60s. Since I was born in 1966 and we rarely ate doughnuts at home I suspect the first donut I ever ate cam from there. For about 20 years my family stayed at the Windjammer on 46th Street every summer and until the old red building was torn down (a sad day when we arrived and saw it gone!) we continued to refer to it as "Josh's." The Fractured Prune T-Shirt I had in middle school was a great novelty since no one in Connecticut, where I lived, had ever heard of the place, much less seen a logo of a Prune with sunglasses and crutches!

Just writing this post has me looking forward to my next trip down there. My favorites are Chocolate Coconut and Chocolate Nut!

Yeah, growing up we stayed at the Sea Nymph on 16th. The building is still the same but they are private condos now. I remember going with my dad and the people would be lined up outside to get into Josh's.
