I am curious why Ocean City started road repair on Coastal Highway that coinsides with Classic Car weekend? We were in OC last weekend, and the highway was a mess. If the town hosts these special weekends, and people pay good money for rooms, and give the town business...why wouldnt the town wait a week or so before beginning this? Last week was something going on with VW in town,,. I saw at least 1/2 dozen cars that were damaged by the road. There was no signs on Friday..but on Saturday i did notice signs posted warning drivers. Just curious?

Well, I've got a little question for you. Since paving work must be done in the spring or fall, when would you have them do the road work? It obviously can't be done in summer or winter due to weather conditions - which leaves September & October, April & May. Funny that you saw so many "damaged" vehicles from the milling work that's being done when I live here and haven't seen any. Also, why is it such a big deal when Ocean City repaves Coastal Highway but not such a big deal when I-95, 695, the BW Parkway, 495, Route 29, or any of the other major roads in the Baltimore-Washington Metro area are paved? Why do you see "damaged" vehicles on Coastal Highway when it's being repaved, but not on these roads?

Roads need to be resurfaced and it's an inconvenience when it's being done, not a catastrophe.

JEEZ,,i didnt mean to start a war... I meant why "not wait a week"?? As far as i can tell by the OC calender. nothing "big" is going on in OC. after this weekend. I personally saw 3 cars get damaged, and others "sitting" in parking lots with damage.I am not saying it is a big deal to do road work, but OC is a "resort town" that depends on "out of towners" coming and and supporting them. by staying at their hotels, and eating at their restaurants. I am a condo owner, and one day when i retire may be a "local". But if the town continues to raise its taxes and raise its prices I may be "selling" and retiriing elswhere.

The roadwork began almost 2 weeks ago so it wouldn't be "putting it off for a week" but would put us 2 weeks behind. Secondly, there are still events and large groups coming to Ocean City after this weekend.........including the Maryland State Teachers Association annual convention at the Ocean City Convention Center. There is an international meeting of the poultry industry, the Repubican women from throughout the state will be holding their 86th annual convention, there is a muscle car & truck show, the East Coast Gift Show, Winterfest begins mid-November, Thanksgiving weekend & the show at the convention center that coincides with that.

Seems to me like there's almost always something going on in Ocean City and there will always be someone inconvenienced in the short-term when roadwork is being done; however, I'm fairly certain that people in the long-term would notice if the roadwork wasn't done and it would be more detrimental.

It's a catastrophe for the classic/custom car owner if their vehicle is damaged and that part is hard to come by.

agreed. and every time you take your classic car on the road, you run the risk of damage.

I don't think there's anything personal in my response. I'm just tired of people complaining about things that occur in Ocean City that they consider as normal in their everyday lives on the other side of the bridge. Roads get paved every day - what's the big deal?

This is true, but it's a bit disgusting when the town schedules road construction during a car event. The only vehicle damage I've got on any of my classic cars was from the road in O.C. Luckily it was minor and just a scuffed tire and scratch on the wheel trim ring. My friend's car wasn't as lucky. His cost about $7k to fix.

My point being when you schedule a vehicle event, the city or state should try it's best to make sure the roads are not being worked on at the time or if they are, ensure the road surface is even, not a 3 inch difference between the lane and shoulder where the lane is lower then the shoulder you need to turn on to. That type of conditions are hazardous for motorcycles also. The other events you mentioned would be inconvenienced by road work for sure, but they're using their daily drivers. Not a vehicle someone has invested, money, sweat, blood and family time in.

I definitely understand and appreciate where you're coming from. I believe the work is contracted by the State Highway since Coastal Highway is a state road; therefore, maybe the people who put on the event (which, by the way, is not the town of Ocean City) should coordinate the event based on the state highway's work schedule.

Thanks for all the input... i didnt mean to attack OC...just if you are hosting something like car shows. that you know the cars will be on the Highway...postponing it would have been a great idea., Teachers , Poultry convention arent going to be using the roads like Custom Cars.. which do bring alot of $$$ to the town..Thanks to all who defended me and my thoughts!!!:)
