My guess is that 5 Guys is not really targeting a "tourist" audience, but rather locals and workers in OC. If DeanM and OCMike's theory is correct, McDonald's, Subway, Pizza Hut, etc. would all be non-existent in OC. I agree with Dean and Mike that they may not "thrive", but they will be just fine I bet.

Wow, lots of 5 Guys haters on this site.  You've got to be kidding me?  Five Guys burgers are unbelievable!  and their fries are delicious too!  Sure, it is not elegant dining, but I will definitely be going to Five Guys while in OC.  I think tourists will be going too.  Maybe not the D.C./Northern VA tourists because that area is saturated, but PA/NJ tourists will go.  They are few and far between in our area.  Look at the Five Guys in Bethany...it has been there for quite some time and is doing well.

You know Montegoman...I live in MD/DC area and don't go to the one by my house, but I will go to the one in OC.  Looking forward to it.  We LOVE to go out and eat and we love all the good places...Liquid Assets, Sunset Grille, Fagers...etc, but every now and again I want to get a decent burger (NOT McDonalds) and take it home.  If we go out for a burger to one of the mentioned places, by the time we have drinks and an app our bill is $60.  That's fine for people who visit once or twice a year, but when you're there almost every weekend (or every other) it gets expensive!

Went in there this weekend, Sunday, to get some food for my daughter. I was thinking "hmmm where in town can I get a decent burger" and remembered it was open. As a 12 month/year local it's good to see it will be open 12 months a year. Not becuase I will go a lot rather just nice to see year round quality places in town. There are so so few and come January/February there is very little choice in town. I know they have one up in Bethany, not sure if it's year round though.

Oh and you want good quick service and excellent food? When ordering and while waiting for your food stare at the grill the whole time! They hire people to check on the place (undercover internal auditers) and management knows how to spot them. Apparently staring at the grill area, making mental notes, gets you noticed and ensures quick serivce and quality product.

I concur that 5 Guys is awesome!  You can't beat the place for a quick burger and fries.  There is one in Hampstead, MD which is about 20 minutes from my house in PA.  We will make a trip there on the weekends every now and then.  If one was in my town, we would frequent it more.  Although, I would have to say since we are in Ocean City only 2-3 times per year, I doubt we would patronize the OC location since we can have it at home.

I've never experienced the place.  I always thought the closest one to me was in York, Pa but the one 20 minutes from nlfissel, may be a bit closer.  I might give them a try when we're down there for Endless Summer Cruisin' next week.  What are the prices like?

Prices are higher than McDonald's but lower than Applebee's or Red Robin.  For a single burger, fries and a coke, it will probably cost you $7-8 dollars--but it is well worth it!  I haven't been to the OC location, so they may be slightly higher in OC since it is a resort town.

It was ~$8.50 something for a burger and fries, no drink

Do they have the peanuts at the one in OC?  Our has boxes of shelled peanuts around the restaurant and you help yourself  to as many as you want while you're waiting for your food.  By the way, even though I'm not a big fan of their food, their hot dogs are HUGE!
