Seems funny calling it a "chain". I remember the first 5 Guys in Arlington, Va off of Glebe rd. When the 5 guys were young and just starting out. It was there for years before they opened there next one. The first 2 or 3 were carry out only.
But then came the franchising.
Good burgers and decent fries.
I could be wrong (and for their sake I hope I am) but I really have my doubts if this will make it in OC.... The burgers are "ok", but not great. I really can't see people going to this place when there is so many other choices around.
There is one in Oakland (pittsburgh) right by the Pitt campus and they do fairly well I guess with the captive college crowd, but I've never really heard of anyone going out of their way, or making a special trip to eat there. To me honestly I think you get a much better burger at Red Robin or texas Roadhouse, than 5 Guys... matter of fact I think Mickey Finn's, Harborside, & Sunset grille's burgers are 100 times better, but maybe the the location at 64th st will be the saving grace for them. *shrug*
I think it would do good as far as carry-out. I agree that MF/Harborside/Sunset and many other places have a great burger, but sometimes (especially in dead of summer) I don't feel like fighting traffic to get from 58th to West OC or North OC to grab a burger. I think it will be good for family carryout rather than McDonalds or Burger King. I'm looking forward to getting into town on a Friday evening and being able to run in and grab a decent burger to go and head to the condo.
While I am in Ocean City I do go out to eat often, and just knowing that I can grab a quick burger and great fries and vinegar on the run, seems like a good choice to me. Better than McDonalds!! For example, when I get into town tomarrow, I head straight for the Bull on the Beach for lunch, won't feel like having a big dinner so I'll be heading to 5 Guys Burgers and Fries and its only a couple of blocks from the condo where I am staying. Sometimes, you don't want to deal with long waiting times at restaurants. Also, its a great lunch when your sitting on the beach!!!
I have to agree with Dean. 5 Guys is just your run of the mill, can get the food anywhere type place and may not do so well in that location. If it was an inlet or boardwalk location it would do great I believe. I think a lot of people who come to OC want to try nicer, non-chain, sit-down type restaurants. When you only have a certain amount of meals while you're there, 5 Guys just doesn't seem like it would fall on too many's list. Maybe I'm wrong, I mean I like their food but to me it's just another "ok" place.
Hoping to be a local...eventually

Hey did 5 Guys Burgers and Fries open yet on 64th street? I'm heading to Sunfest this weekend and wanted to know if it opened yet.
