OFF THE BEATEN PATH - A DAY IN POCOMOKE CITY

A lot of you already know that the Pocomoke River region offers some great outdoor activities such as paddling, hiking and biking.  However you may not be aware of Pocomoke City, MD, a gem of a town on the beautiful Pocomoke River.  We recently had an opportunity to spend the day in Pocomoke City and were very impressed with all this historic town had to offer. 

 

PADDLE PREPARATION - NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK

Paddle sports such as kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding provide a great opportunity for exercise and relaxation.  It is easy to understand considering paddling is one of the most peaceful ways to enjoy your natural surroundings.  There are paddle sports available for almost any age group and there are options for all levels of fitness and experience.  This means paddle sports are a great recreational opportunity for just about everyone and being well prepared will make your experience even better.

BACKYARD ECO TOUR

With the beautiful spring weather I have had the opportunity to get a lot of friends out on the creek these past couple of weeks.  What is surprising is the number of people who say, “Wow, this is beautiful.  I can’t believe we have this resource in our own backyard.”  While not everyone may have a creek, bay, or forest in his or her backyard we all have the opportunity to enjoy nature right where we live.

EAGLES AND OTTERS

The amount of life on the creek these past few weeks has me longing for spring and many hours out on the water.  Over the past few years we have regularly spotted bald eagles soaring over Ayers and Trappe creeks.  No matter how many times I see them it is always a thrill, especially when you see them diving in for a fish or an eel. 

 

TODAY ON THE CREEK

Actually today in the creek is more apt for this day’s adventure.  When my husband’s grandfather tore down an old chicken house 50 years ago it was perfectly acceptable to dispose of the cinder block foundation in the creek.  It actually made perfect sense.  You only had to move the blocks a couple of yards, they would help stabilize the bank of the creek, and an unsightly mess was now conveniently out of si
