Loomis honored Jordie Loomis…, a senior at Worcester Preparatory School, was selected to the Harrow Sports NFHCA High School All-Region Team. Loomis played on Worcester’s championship field hockey team, which has received tournament and conference honors for the past three seasons. During her Upper School years, Loomis was named to the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference First Team All-Conference for field hockey three times, and in her freshman year, to the Second Team All-Conference. Boating course The Coast Guard Auxiliary… is offering the Maryland Basic Boating Safety Course March 10-12 at the Ocean Pines Library. The course, which begins each night at 6 p.m. and ends no later than 9 p.m., includes piloting local Ocean City waters, water knowledge, knots, boat terms, trailering, maintenance, boating safely and legal requirements. The cost is $15 for all three evenings. This course meets the requirements of the Maryland Boating Safety Education Act that requires anyone born after July 1, 1972 to possess a Maryland Basic Boating Safety Certificate to operate a boat in Maryland.

Dodgeball… The Ocean Pines Recreation Department has announced the return of Dodgeball Wars. This favorite Friday night activity is always a hit with children. Dodgeball Wars for children in grades 3-5 will take place Nov. 7 and Dec. 5. For students in grades 6-8, Dodgeball Wars will be offered Nov. 21 and Dec. 19. All competitions are from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $8 for Ocean Pines residents, $9 for non-residents. Admission fee for each participant includes a snack and drink. Skate Jam Fall Skate Jam, a skateboarding competition, will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Ocean City skate bowl…, located at Third Street and St. Louis Avenue. The event begins at 11 a.m. Fall Skate Jam will consist of free state competitions with prizes. Children under the age of 18 will need a liability waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Entertainment will be provided by local band Funk Shue. Concessions will be available for purchase during the event. Sanchez inducted… Martin Sanchez, a 2014 graduate of the US Naval Academy and a 2010 graduate of Worcester Preparatory School, was inducted into the Naval Academy Athletics Hall of Fame recently, for his achievements on the soccer field. Sanchez was a four-year starter at Navy and team co-captain, setting the school record in 2014 for games started, and led the team to its best season in more than 40 years. The team went undefeated in Patriot League play, winning the league tournament and getting into the NCAA championships for the first time since 1971. Sanchez scored the winning goal in opening
