(June 14, 2013) The 1st Street Bistro celebrated its grand opening in mid-May and the response from customers since then has been overwhelmingly positive.
“People have been very receptive. There has been nothing but positive reactions,” said Don Quackenbush, who runs the bistro. He is also the operations manager of the Sleep Inn & Suites, on the corner of First Street and Baltimore Avenue, where the bistro is located.
“It’s a really convenient location,” Quackenbush said. “It’s convenient for people walking by and the bistro is another…

Rosenfeld’s Jewish Deli is the first true “Jewish style” deli to be opened in Ocean City, Md. and I say “ABOUT TIME”. It is located on the bayside of Coastal Highway very near its intersection with the Route 90 Bridge exit. Rosenfeld’s took over a long time store called The Sunshine House and they have transformed a quaint yellow structure into a clean white carryout deli with a surrounding outdoor patio dining area. There is minimal inside dining …

(May 17, 2013) Jay Ball spent several winters working in restaurants in the Caribbean and he has infused those flavors into some of the items on Café Mirage’s menu.
In mid-March, Ball and his wife, Krista, took over the unit formerly home to Café Mirage in the Montego Bay Shopping Center on 128th Street. The restaurant, which has been closed for a few years, featured a Mediterranean and Greek-type cuisine. Ball said they decided to keep the name, Café Mirage, but create a new menu and atmosphere.
The couple painted the restaurant, installed new lighting and updated the outdoor seating area,…

(May 10, 2013) Nancy Bolt was a general building contractor for 19 years, but the dream of opening her own eatery was “20 years in the making.”
Now was the right time for a career change, she said Monday while sitting inside her new business, The Greenhouse, located at 1503 Philadelphia Ave. in Ocean City.
“Everything has a time and a place,” Bolt said. “This location was the right fit.”
A unit in the shopping center between 15th and 16th streets became available and she took over the space on March 6. After some renovations, which included painting, new electric and plumbing, …

(May 3, 2013) A few months after retiring last May as CEO of VennGogh, LLC, a startup social media Web site focusing on nonprofit fundraising and crowd sourcing, at the age of 57, Warren Rosenfeld started to become a bit antsy.
When his wife, Dana, asked him if he were only to live another three months, what would he regret not doing? His response was “open a Jewish Deli.”
“All of my other businesses I feel I filled a need, a hole, in that marketplace,” he said. “I thought a Jewish deli would do so well [in Ocean City].”
He did some research and started planning his menu is September. He gathered…

(April 26, 2013) When Ira Mensh visits a fast food restaurant, he typically orders one thing.
“As long as I’ve been eating out at fast food places, the only thing I really eat is cheesesteaks,” he said.
Mensh owned a gourmet hot dog shop in the 94th Street mall from 1988-1991. He opened Jackson Chicken, featuring wood-burning rotisserie chicken, in 1995 in West Ocean City. When a unit recently became available on 118th Street, he decided to go into the food business again.
He took over the space that had been home to Brianna’s Bananas Cafe, about four months ago. After some remodeling and …
