St. Patrick’s Day 5k Saturday

(March 15, 2013) Before the 32nd annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and festivities begin Saturday, kick start the morning by participating in the third annual St. Patty’s Day Boardwalk 5k run.

“This event just adds to the weekend festivities,” said run co-organizer Chris Klebe of OC Tri-Running Sports Inc. “We have people coming from all over. We have about six or seven states represented.”

The inaugural event in 2011 drew approximately 530 runners. Last year, close to 1,000 people participated, and Klebe anticipates about the same amount, if not more, runners for the 2013 race.…

‘Show that works for kids’ scheduled next month in OC

(Jan. 25, 2013) The Ocean City/Berlin Optimist Club will present the 30th edition of its annual Seaside Boat Show, dubbed the “boat show that works for kids,” Feb. 15-17, at the Ocean City convention center.

This three-day show traditionally draws thousands of water and boating enthusiasts.

Held during Presidents Day weekend, the show provides the Optimist Club an opportunity to raise funds for programs that support local youth. The local affiliate of Optimist International has more than 120 members and is recognized as one of the best clubs in Optimist International.

Weekend expo offers exclusive look at newest goods, services

(Jan. 18, 2013) The 39th annual Maryland Watermen’s Association’s East Coast Commercial Fishermen’s & Aquaculture Trade Expo, scheduled for this weekend at the Ocean City convention center, will feature a number of exhibits, seminars and programs that highlight not only the commercial seafood industry, but also aquaculture, the industry of raising seafood in ponds, tanks and net pens.

Striped bass continue to be species of contention for fishermen
