Exciting times for the Great Horned Owl!

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Did you know that winter is the mating and nesting season for great horned owls? I sure didn’t, but I probably should have — according to a new article in What’s Up? Eastern Shore, by the fabulous Judy Wink (director of the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center), you could easily find a nest in your backyard! How’s that for impressing the kids?

You can find the full text of the article here, with lots of great pictures and a brief guide to looking for owls and nests. The weather has been pretty mild lately, so a mini bird watch might be just the thing to cure that common winter affliction, Restless Kid Syndrome.
